Adding child's artwork

I know a few people scan in their children's art work and then print it on acid free paper. I think I would at least spray it with de-acid spray (I can not think of the actual name right now) because lots of children's are work are on acidic paper.

Do I just spray both sides of the construction paper with that? Oh man..that reminds me...I did a page with my son's foot prints (washable paint) on construction paper, then put it on the cardstock...that was a mistake huh?

For art work from my nieces, nephews and friend's children I scan it in and print it on a inkjet printer.

I have not used the archival spray before, because it is very expensive. I am guessing you would mist both sides. I don't know since I have never used it or read the instructions.

If putting my child's art in my scrapbook I would make sure it was on a separate page from my photos and has a page protector on it or even laminated so it would not come into contact with any of my pictures.

I've never done this before, but I've often thought about it. It might be easier (and cheaper depending on cost of the spray) to scan the artwork and print it on acid free paper. I also remember someone pointing out here, can't remember who, that construction paper will fade over time, so it's not exactly archival quality.

If you know someone with a xyron that laminates then I would simply laminate the footprints, remount it and put it back on the cardstock.

I use top-loading page protectors where two pages slip into the protector back to back. I've used my children's artwork several times. I just slip it into the protector un-mounted. Most have been basic crayons/pencil on white paper. Because I've got a protector, I'm not worried about the page touching a photo. The second page within the protector has a cardstock back and typically my pictures are matted, so that is two layers between.

If I used a different type of album (without plastic page protectors), I would think twice about where & how I placed the artwork -- I think several great ideas have already been posted. I do know the effect of including the artwork is so precious to me, that I recommend you find the appropriate way to include the "masterpiece". You won't regret it later!

Thanks Amy, That is the same albums I'm using. That makes complete sense, and I think I'll do that...this way I don't have to spend more money...(I'd rather spend it on embellishments).

I love to look at their first peices of work ...and think that either they would like to see it when they get older, or their wives and children would.

Somewhere around here I have a pencil drawing that DD did last year on printer paper. It's one of those "priceless" drawings and on the back I wrote what she said about it and the date. The drawing is two stick figures. One has this HUGE head that almost takes up a good half of the paper. The other figure is smaller, in normal perportions. I asked DD about it when she brought me this drawing. "This [pointing to the smaller figure] is me." I asked about the HUGE-headed figure and she said "That's Jordan [her little brother] all growed up with his big head." LOLOLOL One of these days I will find that again and scrap that sucker!
