"Ticks" at the Beach

Aug 22, 2007 12 Replies

I just finished converting a travelogue/diary into a scrapbook. We took a great vacation in 1992 that has become known in our family as "Ticks at the Beach" (from the expression "full as ticks", that referred to our eating habits at that time.) I found that the old "magnetic" photo album that I had used in 1992 was yellowing, and since I've learned how to scrap and all about archival methods I decided to convert it. My rules for myself were:

  1. Page-for-page conversion 2. Use the journaling exactly as written. 3. Photos could be cropped, but I had to use all of them

I'm quite pleased with it. I posted it at

Oh ... we've all reformed our eating habits since then, and have lost weight. :-)

It turned out great. I'm amazed at all of the journaling. Looks like you had a wonderful vacation. I had to check out the sun-surf realty. We are always looking for somewhere new for vacation. I love the beach!

Wow, I lov all the journalling and had to stop at page 5, because I have a crop at my house tonight and a scrapbook 4 others due on Friday with 9 pages still to go. But I've promised myself I would go back and read the whole thing. There is an easy flow to the journalling and I am glad that you decided to keep it the way it was when you first wrote it! Awesome album!

Gina - sounds like a great trip - I bet it was fun re-living the memories as you put that together.

:)

It's a great album, and I think it's so great you kept the original journaling.

what an amazing album! I love all of the journaling. This is a great album to pass down to generation to generation. Excellent job!

Great album! What a great way to relive the trip and share with others. I enjoyed reading about your trip and it sounds like you have a terrific time. Thanks for sharing!

Great job on re-doing the travelogue/journal Gina! I love the fact that you have reproduced all the written journalling in the converted album. It should be safe and sound for years to come now that you have used archival quality products. TFS :) Take care, Marilyn

Wonderful album. Shows me there is still hope for me to do the same to some of our older travel albums. I love the journaling. Brought back so many memories for me of the summer I spent as a teen with my uncle and his family at Langley while he was in service. I visited so many of the same sites. No pictures of course, what teen back then thought of a camera...... Thanks for sharing. Sandy

I got that paper at Michael's. There are several different patterns, all from "famous fine art".

Thanks for all the nice comments! Now I'm trying to decide between doing pages of my first dog with my son as an infant/toddler, or doing a long-ago trip to Hawaii that has a lot of cute toddler pictures of my son. Choices, choices!!

Great job reclaiming your album from an old magnetic album. Loved the story of the sand ball fight. We've had a family or two walk quickly past us too... when were having fun. LOL Great journaling!

Your subject line brought to mind a camping trip my family & I went on when I was in my early teens. Coincidentally, it was in Virginia (Haymarket, to be exact, which is in Northern Virginia). Unfortunately, our "ticks" reference meant the real critter. As my dad puts it, that place was just polluted with ticks. As a result, Greenville Farm Family Campground (which is still in business, apparently) will forever be known as "Tick Haven".

Your "tick" vacation sounds like a lot more fun! LOL
