CM Cutting System ???s

I was very lucky yesterday afternoon when I came across a huge amount of CM products that were brand new and being discounted at a yard sale. I was able to get the cutters and quite a few of the templates.

My first question is relating to the long 12 inch template. When I line it up for a 12 inch piece of paper, I cannot get the blade to cut at the beginning and the end - it seems as though it is too high off the paper. Any suggestions? I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Also, I was able to get the 12 inch, the ovals, circles, a star and round set, large oval with hexagons, a heart set with diamond. I tried to get into the CM website, but I cannot click to get on the custom cutting system. Are there other templates? How long should I expect the blades to last? Should I have a spare set? I have broken blades on the Fiskars.

Thanx for help!

hi Tiffany! The 12 inch cutter is a little tricky to use and I usually use my Carl rotary trimmer for straight lines. I do like using the cm cutter for wavy lines, though. As for the blades, I think they work pretty well for a couple years. It depends on how much you are using them and if you are using a lot of heavy cardstock. I don't have any backups and I've had mine for over 2 years. I will probably think about getting backups within the next 6 months or so. there are a few more templates but it seems as though you've acquired a great stash already. Some of the templates you are only supposed to get when you have completed a Memory Keepers Club card (buying $250 worth of merchandise). I know I've seen them on eBay so if you don't buy a lot of Cm products then it might be worth your while to get them from eBay. What I love most about the CM cutting system is the fact that you can cut 3 different sizes on the inside and outside of each template AND they come with clear guides that you can place over your pictures to see which color blade you need to use.

When I first got mine, I used them a LOT. I was replacing the blades every year or two, I think. You'll know when they get dull, as they won't cut as easily, and you'll start getting more jagged lines every now and then. Lori Shay Louisville

Hey Tiffany. I think everyone else has answered your questions but I wanted to tell you about the blades. I'm a CMC and I use my cutting system alot. I have it out at crops, we use it at classes, and I have for my personal use. I've had to replace my red blade once in about 5 years. I use it the most too. You can purchase the replacements from your CMC and you don't have to buy all three, just the one.

I haven't ever had any problem using mine either and I think that you have hit on the reason why.

Also, I found that it works best if you stand up when you are cuttting your circles or straight lines, that way you have better control and more even pressure.
