customs is sooooooooo slow

I'm still waiting for my recipe swap. It's insane. I mailed them and they were recieved within a week. I mailed out Christmas cards last Thursday and I know at least one made it to Arkansas yesterday. My sister ordered a Dell computer and got it in a week. Yet, my little package with recipe pages is sitting somewhere waiting to be delivered to me. Canada Post sucks. But then, it's US customs that's holding it up. Why is it they check things thouroughly that are leaving the country, yet not those that are entering the country? Hopefully they get to me soon.

I went and mailed ONE of my SS packages today at post office to Canada. They told me it MIGHT take up to 6 weeks!!! I asked why and was told that Canada only has THREE entry ports for mail and THEIR customs has to verify everything to ensure it it not taxable. AND we thought taxation inthe good Ole US was bad!!!

Anyhow I have to get my can in gear and get couple more out by end of week and might think about sending them air instead of surface, even though they too have to go to those same three ports with a eta of 3 weeks! GRR!!

Anyhow the lucky recipient of the package I sent today will be more than tickled (OH how I can't wait until the 25th!) as it weighed 22 pounds!! And you wonder why i sent it surface - LOL!!

(pocketbook making weird noises - would it be the TIME of the season!?)

259 for 04, 14 mini albums of 28 pages, 1 swap

Strange, because the posties I talk to here at work say it's the US Customs here that slows it down. I have to ask again to see if I heard it wrong. But yes, you're right about there only being 3 points of entry. They closed Calgary down as one of them which has the posties in an uproar. They said it was always packed full of mail when it was here and don't understand why they shut it down.

Canada Post is really slow generally though - my Mum posts a parcel to me ona Friday and it arrives here the following Wednesday yest when I post to her it can take up to 3 weeks but if I send from the US it doesn't take that long so it has to be Canadas end.

They are also more strict in recent months after the gun disaster - someone in canada (a youth I believe) ordered something from Ebay and when it arrived he had been sent the wrong item and he got a real gun!!!! Customs were in big trouble for not finding it!!!

Now almost every parcel my parents send is opened by customs.

I also read recently on a canadian site that 90% of electronics sent via Canada Post go missing!!!!!!

Good Heavens! We always joke down here in South Africa about our "good" postal service - but that's rediculous! However, just to be on the safe side, we posted all our Christmas Parcells at the end of November allready...lol!
