Disappointed

Worked my butt off last week all day Sunday & then after work until midnight Monday & Tuesday & late (tho not midnight) on Wednesday to get the album of dad's California trip done in time to ship off to him on Thursday. Sent it via DHL (which is what we use at work) 2-day, figuring it would arrive today (Monday), which is exactly when I needed it to be there. Couldn't have it arrive Friday or Saturday, as no one was home. Wanted it to be there in time for tomorrow's birthday party, so dad could show friends & family "how he spent his summer vacation". He loves having people look at the albums I make.

Checked DHL's online tracking this morning & it was scheduled to be delivered today. Said it was on the truck. Perfect.

Checked back midday & when I left work (3p PST) & it was still saying it was set for delivery today. Figured maybe the online tracking wouldn't be updated until the driver finished his/her run, so called dad about 8:30p his time to check. Nope, no box.

This is the 2nd time that DHL hasn't delivered a package when promised. Anyone else have a similar experience with them? They're easy for me to use since I can ship on the company account (at their discounted rate), then pay when the bill comes in, but I just can't trust them to deliver when they say they will.

Sorry for your issues with DHL. I completely sympathize. Twice I've had problems with them shipping something, once at Christmas and once at a non-holiday time. The non-holiday thing was the worst-it took almost a week to get to where it needed to be (total drive time from my house to recipient was 5 hours). At least the website said it was in transit for you, it never said squat for me. When I shipped with them I got confirmation of the delivery--5 DAYS after the package got there. Awful, awful, awful. UPS is more expensive, but I won't use DHL again. Even the USPS delivery is better. Oh-the package I sent at Christmas-I got a bill about a month later stating I owed more $$$ since I sent it express (I hadn't). I had paid cash for the transaction, but luckily still had my receipt and needed to fax that to DHL headquarters. Still was being billed-had to get Office Depot involved (since that is where I sent the package from) and only then was able to get THAT cleared up. Again, they're cheap (at least in MN) and you certainly get what you paid for. Its worth the extra buck, at least for me, to not have to worry about that stuff.

My 2-cents. Happy and safe 4th everyone! Kathy

UPS does the same thing. They tell you one thing and then presto it doesn't show up. I shipped a bread machine one time and they actually ran over it with a truck. The box was nearly flat and had tread marks. It looked like some sort of road kill. Took them a year to pay off on the insurance. Personally, I don't trust any of them. But, when you need to ship what are you going to do? Go the Post Office? They don't provide tracking info until after it has arrived. If it doesn't arrive, then no tracking info. What kind of sick joke is that?

I had some broken glassware with the post office. It took them 8 months to call me up saying the check was ready and that I had to bring my original paper work in to get it. After 8 months I didn't know where the heck the paper work was. Dang them and their tricky ways.

I ordered a camera from Fry's for a birthday present. I paid an extra $11 to have it shipped overnight for my niece's birthday on Sunday and they shipped through DHL so I could have a Saturday delivery. DHL said it was on the truck, I waited and waited, called around 1pm, was told it was on the truck and it would be here, I called again between 3-4 and was told it would be delivered and so I sat in all day waiting since I had to sign for it. At

6pm I was ready to kill someone, I called again and this time someone actually looked into it and said there was a shipping error and the package would be delivered on Monday instead. I paid an extra $11 and my day off was wasted because DHL promised delivery and didn't deliver.

I simply will not buy something if the only delivery option is through DHL. I thought they should have refunded the extra $11 but there was no response when I wrote them about it.

We had a computer struck by lightening several years ago. The insurance company made me ship it to a company two states away to repair it (believe it or not). the company insisted on the monitor being shipped with the computer (why I don't know - the whole deal was crazy. I drove it 45 miles away to have the system packed and shipped from one of their stores. Broken monitor when it came back with the repaired computer. My insurance company said "not my problem" and it took UPS almost a year to settle with me. We had to go buy a new monitor to be able to use the computer - even to make sure it worked when we got it back. We switched insurance companies after that - they had a switch put in one of our touch lamps that was hit at the same time instead of replacing it and argued about the tv. When the guy showed up the insurance company sent to rewire the telephone lines I swear he had no idea what he was doing. And to top that off he only wanted to run wires to the main phone in the house - not to the bedrooms, family room, etc. I sent him away after about an hour and rewired the house myself. It was one of those hits by lightening that melted all the phone wires in the house and did a number on every electrical appliance plugged it at the time. Our answering machine was a black melted blob. Totally off the subject now.......sorry. Sandy

For future reference Fed Ex will allow you to submit a form that gives permission to leave a package without your signature if necessary.

WOW that is disappointing. I got work hooked on them and I have a personal account too and not had any troubles. But at work when it absolutely has to be there, we use FEDEX and their guaranteed delivery. It is more costly but worth the sake. Of personal note when I have sent almost all my packages DHL, they have gotten there before I was told and what was on the bill.

Just some areas I guess. I have had those experiences with UPS especially when they delivered my Dell pc two tears ago. There was three boxes, they delivered them one day at a time starting one day late. I was so mad and even got into it with Dell.

Hope he gets it soon and when he does WE all know he will be more than surprised and HAPPY!!

OMG You are so FUNNY!!! That story is a classic for sure!!

I have had more problems out of USPS myself, especially when it comes to claims. It is the office here that absolutely sucks though!

FEDEX is the way, albeit they are more expensive, if it has to be there. I have a little number sticker on m door that allows them to drop off anything. I filled out a application to get no signature required.

What a bummer! Have they delivered it by now? I know I've had my share of shipping fiascos. Don't get me started on FedEx, though. I prefer UPS now. Hope it gets to your dad soon! I know he'll enjoy it once he gets it.

Yes, it arrived Wednesday. A day late for the party.

Thanks. Yes, he liked it very much & has enjoyed showing it to whoever's been around. He would've had 100 victims, er, people to share it with if it had arrived in time for the party.

I've got it up on webshots. Will post the link in a separate post.

I prefer UPS as well although they did say my laptop was coming on a Friday and all day Friday I waited and by 4pm the delivery date was sudeenly changed to Monday. I have to cut them some slack though because it was during the holidays and I didn't pay extra to have it shipped by Friday.
