Empty Film Containers

I'm just wondering what everyone does with all their empty film containers. Do you toss them, or use them for something? I was doing some cleaning and discovered a bunch of them... I hate to toss them if I put them to some use. Any ideas?

Caravans for us are recreational vehicles (RVs) or trailers. I put hand cream in the film canisters so I don't have to carry a huge bottle in my bag. I also keep flower seeds for the next year in them. Of course, you could use them for scrapbooking purposes--eyelets, beads, etc.

I'll tell you what *not* to store in empty film canisters: volcanic ash. Years ago I worked for an engineering firm that did some work at Mount St. Helens in Washington when the volcano erupted. One of the engineers brought me back some volcanic ash. Once when I was scrambling to reload my camera... You guessed it! I dumped volcanic ash all inside my SLR. Try explaining that to the camera repair guy! He just laughed and charged me an arm and a leg to clean my poor little Canon.

I use them for little what-nots like eyelets. You just glue one of the eyelets or beads, etc., onto the lid so you know what's in there. I use water bottles for fibers. Aquafina is my favorite water, and I wrap fibers I buy from ebay around the outside of a bottle. It takes up more room than a bobbin. Maybe I should put the fibers in a film container and punch a hole in the lid. Now you are giving me ideas. star2fire

oh yes and there are tourist places here that use them to give away as personal ashtrays so no one has to litter the ground with their old butts. Theyt have a little sand in the bottom of them :o) and a label on the outside so that no occurence like the volcanic ash would happen --- not much help for yours but jsut letting you know a titbit from here Shaz

oh !!!! for the small lots of fibres good idea star like a string container. The same could be done with wires since mine unravels and curls all over the floor most of the time

Good ideas for craft knife blades (put the new blade on the craft knife and put the dull blades in the containers).

A film canister with a flat top holds exactly $7 in quarters. I save State Quarters in them for my collection and put regular quarters in them to keep in the glove compartment for tolls or when I just need a quarter. If you play the quarter machines at the casino you can save your quarters for that. Peggy

I've been saving the black ones to make "Oscar the Grouch" (with green pompoms) with my kindergarteners this fall.

1) great for lil matches cuz it's great for waterproofed container. 2) for all the lil washers and bolts that lay around. 3) containers for tumb tacks and brads. 4) great for glitter and beads. 5) let the cats have them... keeps them entertained for a while. 6) so long as you mark the top you don't get confused.

places her two pence in the hat.
