Creative Memories

I have a quick question for you guys. I've been approached by a CM representative in my city in regards to selling CM products through my retail store. I'm not sure what all the details would be, but I'm curious if you guys as a consumer would be more likely to order scrapbooking supplies from a store that offers both CM and other products, or if that would deter you, or anything else. I would be offering the prices at either the same or a bit less than what CM asks.

Would CM allow that? I know that they don't allow consultants to sell on eBay (if they get caught, supposedly they get kicked out of CM). I wonder what the rules would be for selling in a retail store.

Personally, I wouldn't mind buying them in a store.

from what i understand of CM (my DSIL was a consultant) this would NOT be allowed by CM. they set their prices, and will not allow anyone to sell at any other price. also, last i knew, they would NOT allow their product to be sold through retail outlets. better check into this one before you get too deep. might get sticky.... lori shay louisville

I'm going to reply to both responses here. I do actually have an email in to CM to see what they say. The lady who contacted me said that it would be unlikely that CM would find out, but I want to see what they say first (sent it through an anonymous account).

Technically.. they wouldn't be sold through a "retail" outlet, as I am internet based, meaning people cannot come to my house to buy, but still... same thing for most intents and purposes. Its not a CM consultant selling them.

Delurking with an answer. I am a CM Consultant and I can tell you that it definitely not allowed by CM. It's against CM policy to sell in a retail store and to sell over the internet. The consultant in question would be deactivated if CM found out.

I'm a CMC as well, and this is definitely not allowed... if caught the consultant in question would definitely be de-activated. I'm not sure they would do anything to you Sharon, but it would definitely be a hassle. And considering there are CMC's lurking everywhere, I don't think it would take long.

I wonder if that is ok with CM. I have a feeling it wouldn't be. You should really look into that so you don't get involved in legal stuff.

Thanks guys! :) I did get an email back from CM, and it basically says it is not allowed. From reading the bit of policy they attached, it definitely seems like a word of mouth business. It almost sounds like you can't even have a mailing list for your customers.

I will email her back and tell her that I'm not interested due to CM's response. My guess is that CM wouldn't be able to penalize me, except for telling me to get the products off the site, but they could definitely hurt her.

you can have a mailing list... you just can't be the first to approach someone, they have to approach you.. ie, no spam....

Gotcha. This lady is still wanting me to do it. She says that CM knows it is going on and doesn't approve of it, sounds like other people do this other places. Not too sure.

The problem is, there are lots of consultants around. They will shop at your store. Some won't care, but many will know that this is an unfair advantage over them and they will report it. So if you do it, you may not be able to do it for very long.

For what it's worth, I've been to many scrapbooking stores and I've never seen anyone who sells CM stuff.
