Envelope paper

I'm just full of questions today. :-)

For those of you who make your own envelopes...what weight paper do you use for your envelopes

TIA!

I have just started making my own envelopes! I finally gave in and bought the Coluzzle envelopes over in Peoria at Jeffery Allans. I have been using copy paper for mine, because it ischeaper, and lighter and easier to fold. I am wondering myself if we use heavier weight paper like cardstock, will it be too heavy for just one stamp, if we are mailing the envelope? Good question Amy!

I usually use a sheet of patterned scrapbook paper that matches the card. I like to have envelopes with a pattern on the inside.

I also use just a sheet of pattern paper. I have mailed several and it seemed to work fine. Cardstock is harder to fold and heavier so I only use that if I am going to hand the card to someone.

I think cardstock is too heavy... I use either coloured printer paper, but if I have to make a 5x7 envy then I have to use a sheet of 12x12 patterned paper because it won't fit! I've noticed that a lot of the paper in my collection is too flimsy for envelopes so I try to choose the slightly heavier-weight sheets. A lot of people use wallpaper remnants to make envelopes because it's a lot sturdier than regular paper and it won't tear whatever they do to it in the mail!

Amy, I use the patterned paper that I can't stand (think that was in a thread somewhere) that I got in a slab. I do try to corodinate somewhat with the card I'm sending. It's fun to recieve a card that when you open the envelope there's something beside just white.

I've heard a few of you saying you used patterned paper as envelope paper. I tried this for the first time in May and as I folded it I realized that it had lines on the white side to show someone how to cut it to be 8 1/2 X 11. Just my luck. So, that is something to watch out for with some patterned papers.

Hi Kenda,

Great idea to use the unpopular papers from slabs inside envelopes. I will try that too - and the person receiving them does not need to know that the paper inside the envelopes was not one of my favourites!

Good point I would have never thought to look before I started cutting.

I like to put the coloured side on the OUTSIDE of the envelope where people can see it... you can always write/print the address on a sticky label if the envelope is too dark or patterned to write on...

I had wanted the pattern to be on the inside, but after the line problem I put it on the outside as well. It was the only paper that matched the card or I would have just redone it.

Heehee, that's the idea Klara! It's a good way to use up the paper, guilt free. Besides you never know, the recipent may really like it!
