paper for envelopes

Ok, dumb question time!

I have been practicing TRYING to make envelopes for cards but have run into a problem that is annoying me. What kind of paper do you use? I have tried cardstock and it is just too stiff and heavy. Even after the thing is smashed flata nd the PERMANENT tape sets overnite, it still lies open on its own.

I thought of using the CHEAP brands of pattern paper I have, BUT BUT BUT!!! it is paper taht maybe could have a better use!!! FDurther I think that typing or printer paper is well too white or bland.

What do ya'll use or what is recommended?

I use some of the cheaper 12x12 paper and use the white on the outside and the pattern on the inside. I try to pick one that coordinates with my card. Stuff from the slabs. I also buy envelopes cheap. Another thing that you can do from time to time is hit a hallmark/carleton card store after a big holiday. They often have envelopes that they are going to throw away.

That's right Dave. I was at Longs 5 years and they had gone through their card section and had a huge box of envelopes to get rid of. Had a FREE sign on them. I asked how many I could have and they said I could take the whole thing if I wanted, because there was little interest in it. I did and have about 10 left. I do make a lot of my envelopes, but sometimes you just want a quick premade one.

I usually buy the premade card and envelope packages, and I have never thought about making the envelope. Is there a pattern or instructions anywhere for making envelopes? Thanks, Linda C

Dave.. some of the stores I go to put the purchases in a floral bag. I save them to use, and I have also used brown paper grocery bags, and on sale wrapping paper.

Linda, if you have a Michaels or JoAnn's near you.. check for plastic templates. I bought mine in a scrapbook store, but have seen them there. Also, I know there is a website that has patterns.. but I dont know right quick where it is.. when I find it I will post again.. Hugs Neets

I just use patterned paper. I pick one to match my card and fold it so that the pattern is on the inside. (This only works if the back side is blank!)

Fiskars makes templates for envelopes, but there are different sizes. It says n the side of them come to find out!!

My NSSSF found a coluzzle one and sent me. It is great and has several different sized ones on it. I think it is more convenient.

I never thought of that... I've only made small envelopes and I just used coloured printer paper. Of course to make a larger envelope I need larger paper... next time I see a paper pack on sale I'll have to buy it!
