OT: A mom compliment

I took my daughter to the doctors today. We've had the same doctor for 13 years. We don't see her that much any more since the kids don't have ear infections. I'm blessed with healthy kids. Anyhow the doctor starts asking questions about the my son to my daughter and my daughter is totally ratting him out regarding his bad habits. He doesn't like vegetables, but mom makes him eat them... he won't wash his face, but mom makes him wash it.... we don't want to go to bed before 9pm, but mom makes us. I'm starting to think the doctor is going to think I'm a little dictator. BUT she says, "You have a good mom, because it's her job to make you do things even when it's difficult and you don't want to. She wants you to healthy and safe." I felt so good to get a pat on the back.

You deserve a pat on the back! Sometimes I feel like the 'bad guy' because I make my kids do things like brush their teeth, and eat veggies, and bathe, and go to bed at 8pm. LOL But I know that's my job, and even if my kids don't like it, it's for their own good. Way to go us "mean moms"!

I have a poem of sorts framed on the wall called the "Mean Mom." I've probably had it 13 years too. It just cracks me up.

Way to go mom! It's so neat that the doctor said those things to your daughter. It is nice when your kids see you get compliments for the things that you do to help them grow up.

Way to go Lynne. It's not always easy to be the mom, but it's always special! A child's job is to explore the world and push against today's limits so that something new is learned. A mom's job is to know when a child is ready for new limits and until then to keep the old ones in place.

Good job Lynne. I'm certain you've given your children the same answer as the doc when the why's start flying... Why do I have to eat my vegetables? Why can't I stay up let? Why can't I walk through the forest by myself? I don't know about your children but I can tell mine something a thousand times and they act like they've never heard it but all it takes is hearing it from the Dr. once and the message gets through.
