OT: Bad Weather - anyone else?

Well we are getting a ICE STORM!! I got awaken about 4 this morning to a loud crack. I thought it might be my neighbor lady friends pine tree, but after going outside, it is my tree on my roof - ulp! The beautiful Bradford pear on the sdie of my shop is down too. I looked at Barbs at the pine is still hanging in there I would say with close to 3/4 inch ice but her Bradford pear was ready to get her car so I got it moved. You hear stories of people talking about being out in something like this, to hear the trees snapping and breaking, but I tell you in th edark and stillness it is scary.

Thank god, so far my part of town the electric has not gone out yet. It has gone off a couple times, but I figure with much more freezing rain or if the wind starts to blow we will have BIG trouble! Right now there is 70,000 in the city area with no electric. Today we are to get more.

I know taht the storm is predicted for Kansas, Missouri and to Illinois so wondering if anyone else is affected yet. I guess when daylight comes I will see what is done outside nad get some pictures.

(hugs)

Sorry to hear about your trees. Hopefully there's no damage to your house. Sounds like you will be busy cutting trees down today. Becareful.

I'm in Tulsa - of course we've got it too. Sitting here near the window, watching trees go down, hoping the ones near my home stay up. We lost one in a wind last month, so at least it's out of the way.

We got freezing rain and rain the last nights. This morning all the trees looked like glass!! I haven't seen any downed trees yet, because I think we got less than a 1/4 inch of ice. More predicted for this evening, and my youngest DS basketball game is canceled because of the weather! Dave I hope your trees dont fall on your house! Everyone be careful if traveling!

we got the ice storm here in ny too. As DH was out cleaning off the car for me this morning I was out taking pictures of the driveway. Here is pictures of our ice, it was thick. The commute to work wasn't to bad once I was able to get out of the driveway and off the backroads onto the main highway it wasn't so bad. Here is my pictures:

It is supposed to start here about 2:00 am. I'm not looking forward to it. I hate ice storms. Steve brought his computer home from work in case it is so bad he can't get to work tomorrow.

Brrrr! It's really cold here too. I had to put a long sleeve shirt on today.

Ducking any beaded sandals thrown my way,

I'll try and send some of our 80 degree temps your way!! I'm sorry to hear about all the damages due to the ice. I bet that's scary to deal with. I know we are supposed to get some of the colder temps, but none of the ice. Please be careful dealing with all that! We want all of you to be safe.

Non here....though they are starting to talk about funky weather this weekend. My first thought was, "oh, I have to go buy more pet food!" LOL No, I'm not worried if the people run out of food, just the pets! I hope it has settled down for you a bit.

What you're getting is exactly what we (KC) got back in '02. Until you've heard the horrible sound of the trees cracking and falling and all of the breakers blowing up you can't even imagine it.

Ours was all sleet Saturday and yesterday it was freezing rain in the evening. Luckily it warmed up (33) overnight so all we had all day today was just rain. The trees and ground is all covered in ice though. Luckily my huge pear tree out back has held up for all of our ice storms. Unfortunately the birch tree in front has a huge/major branch broke and hanging over the fire hydrant. I lost another major section of this tree a couple months ago from wind in a fall storm. I think due to that it must now be weak.

Hang in there Dave. I hope you still have power and that there isn't too much damage from the falling trees. Your city will still be cleaning up come spring.
