OT: death of family pet

I have to go upstairs and tell my DD that her beloved guinea pig, Chandler has died. I was reading my e-mail and realized I had not heard him talking to me like he does every morning while waiting for me to come over and scratch his head. She has had him for three years and he is also a favorite among the daycare children and grandchildren. It will be a sad day here. He was a very loving pet and all of the children could handle him with ease.

I'm so sorry, Sandy. I still remember the tears and heartache when we lost our Sarafina (guinea pig) last year. Losing a furbaby is never easy!

So sorry for your loss. I lost one of my furbabies earlier this year. I have ferrets, down to 2 now.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. and thoughts of kindness. DD really took it hard. I think it was worse that so many people asked her when she was going to get another guinea pig. I had to help her to understand that lots of people just don't understand pets and how they become almost an extension of ourselves. The younger ones at the daycare took it pretty good. The 3-5's were the ones who, of course, had the most questions. DD scrapbooked a few pictures of Chandler yesterday and I do think that helped. Plus, right now she is so busy getting ready for going back to school next Monday.
