OT: Good Thoughts Monday, Please

My 84 year old dad is having knee replacement surgery on Monday. Unfortunately, he couldn't schedule it while I was in the area, so now I'm back on the opposite coast. If you think of it Monday, please send "Bud" good thoughts for a successful surgery & recovery. We'll both appreciate it.

Kate, Cathy, Judy & Kenda:

Thanks so much. All good thoughts greatly appreciated.

My uncle's supposed to call after he's talked to the doctor after the surgery, so when I can (may be after work) I'll post an update.

Just heard from my aunt, who heard from dad's brother, who's with dad at the hospital. Looks like everyone's good thoughts helped, as dad came thru the surgery in excellent shape. Whew!

I have a phone number to try him later in the day, but don't imagine he'll be up for more than a minute or so's conversation.

Thanks again for your good thoughts.

Thanks again, everyone. Talked to dad briefly this afternoon. He was still groggy from the surgery (expected). 2 of my cousins visited him this evening & said he was coherent when awake but kept drifting off to sleep. He has "on demand" pain meds, which I'm happy to say he was using when needed. Hope he's having a good night (it's 2a there).

All the good thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Tabitha!

Chatted with dad twice today.

This morning we were on the phone when the doctor walked in, so I was able to talk with him for a minute. He was very pleased with the surgery & how dad was doing. Said there was almost no swelling & that dad was in great shape.

Dad said this evening that he'd walked to the door of his room & back (with the therapist) -- probably 15 feet each way. He's off the on-demand pain meds, but seems to still be on strong enough painkillers that he dozes off easily.

Tho the original plan was for him to return to his brother's after the surgery, dad's now looking at the option of going to a rehab facility for a week (good idea!).

Thanks again, everyone, for the good thoughts!

Thanks, Carolyne.

Well, by Thursday it was back to plan A. Called dad Thursday morning to be told by his roommate that dad was soon to check out of the hospital & return to his brother's. The doctor was very pleased with dad's progress & how he came thru the surgery. Whew!

I *think* he has 3 weeks of therapy at home & that's it. Luckily, he's very self motivated & will continue with whatever they tell him to on his own (the only worry is that he'll overdo it, as his usual philosophy is "if 5 repetitions are good, then 10 are twice as good, right?" ).

Thanks again for all the good thoughts, everyone.
