OT: just need to unload

Tuesday DH and I went up to the hospital to see a guy from work who'd had surgery on Monday (had his colon resected as he had polps(I know I butched the spelling on that!) and they were growing sideways; not up and down where they can use the little pinchers to pinch them off.). Jerry looked great, was feeling good (told me how much he loved his epidural, now I know why you ladies get these when you have babies! LOL) he was anxious to go home. Jerry is Alan's driver so we know him pretty well. Jerry was also very good to me when I hired on and taught me alot as far as the driving aspect of the job.

Wednesday night while at work our battalian chief sent out an email letting us know that Jerry had been taken to the ICU. (his wife noticed he wasn't look good, the LPN said oh he looks just fine. His wife went and got the RN who said, you're right let's check his O2 sat. rate, it was 68%! he went right into ICU as he was on oxygen)

Thursday DH called in sick, he was feeling very unwell. We got a call around 10 am from one of the guys that went to check on Jerry, He had just coded. We flew out of the house and just as we were pulling into the parking lot of the hospital we got another call that they had just pronounced Jerry dead!!

I am just so sick over this. Jerry was 62 and in good health, though he'd had a heart attack 5 years ago. Alan is just torn up. The family set up a special visitation this morning just for the firemen as his wife knew how much we needed that. Jerry was cremated this afternoon and his funeral will be held tomorrow. His wife asked that Alan play his bagpipes as she knows how much Jerry loved to listen to Alan playing them at the station. I have to work tomorrow so don't know if we'll be able to attend or not, that is still up in the air.

I just feel so sad....

((BIG HUGS!)) for you and a 'man hug' for DH.

That is so sad and my thoughts and prayers are with all. Hopefully he did not suffer and guess it was just his turn to go meet our Lord.

So sorry to hear of the lost of your friend. I can relate recently a friend of our family went into the hospital for general surgery and she came out of surgery was doing great joking and laughing talking about going home in 2 days (just being herself). The next day we get a call say she took a turn for the worst then a few hours after arriving at the hospital she passed away. So Sorry to hear of your lost. Your family and your friend's family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Many thanks to all who sent good thoughts and prayers our way. I was able to attend the funeral for Jerry. DH is starting to wrap his head around this now. It's still hard of course, I really am worried about the guys on Wed. as they will be cleaning out Jerry's locker and taking his bed apart. All the prayers do help, thanks to each and every one of you, {{{{hugs}}}}

*BIG hugs* I know this was hard for DH. Hopefully things are a bit better now. Losing a friend is never easy, especially when it's so unexpected like this was.
