Hi M-C,

I thought I had maybe sorted things out earlier but the PC seems to be = playing up again now.....grrrrh! I bought a new keyboard a while back = and I am trying to find out how to disable the function keys that are = automatically set up on install, so I can stop this thing going into = Windows at boot up. I can then get into the scanreg and defrag as that = will often resolve incompatibility issues. If I could only find the = dratted thing.....now I have lost Windows Explorer.....cover me I am = going in!!!!!!!!! I'll be back later....I hope....LOL

Still working on it Lynne. I have scandisked, defraged, tried a system restore, removed my multimedia keyboard software, disabled stuff in the startup through msconfig and the only thing I can figure is the problem I am getting with a loadqm.exe error since the last install of critical upgrades. That Bill Gates has a lot to answer for......grrrh Since I disabled that I rebooted OK so fingers crossed that may have resolved it for know. I know that I really need to reformat, got some real dusty corners that need defluffing in this PC....ROFL Well, we are running so will see how things go for know....I don't want to have to do major backups and reinstall....to many other things to play with. Sorry to the technophobes....just had to sound off or go crazy with this machine. Any more nonsense from it tonight, the gloves are off and combat boots it is....Now who had the boots last???????

Sabrina, that Dave is cute but not my type LOL....he was on QVC UK last year for a bit and I think he had a lot of admirers here. They were running some sort of presenter exchange thingy. I think the US got our Dale Franklin in exchange....now there is a nice guy!

I am not that sure about the format of the US shows, they are really quite rushed and it is hard when you are watching online, trying to catch everything they say and do. The card-making shows here are a bit like that but it all gets a bit samey after a while, everything built for quick this, quick that! These are crafts, leisure pursuits! You are supposed to relax and enjoy the creativity, not peel, stick, oh, ah, next project please....LOL

Thanks Marcia but I think I may have got somewhere tonight. Everything crossed here, but the computer seems to be behaving better and I am hoping the reformat can wait a bit longer.

Hey marilyn,

Obviously yu are running a Windows OS. Have yu tried or thought of doing a refresh of the version you have, get or reload all updates and remove any unused programs? in the past, until my burner messed mine ALL up (in the market REAL HOT rigt now for new pc) I had good luck doing those things.

Plus I have read in technie groups that Windows 2000p and XP work better if the thing is left running all the time, on a UPS backup and surge compresor of course!! I leave mine on after reading that and it does not mess up near as much or BAD!! I run 2000pro. That is the only thing I dread about a new one, XP and ALL the security glitches, patches and messes it has. i hate XP!! (wondering why I did not go Mac as that is what I learned originally!)

nada for 05

Wow, That is the way I feel about those QVC shows,too...they rush so I can't even see the LO as long as I want. I wondered if anyone else wanted to say..Wait a minute!! Slow down! The only time I watch that channel is when it has scrapbooking stuff on.

Have to agree with you about XP Dave...I have the XP operating system here and installed it last year. It lasted about two days and I reformat and went back to.....wait for it.......Win98SE. I much prefer it over anything that has come after. Most of my equipment needed drivers to make them run on XP and they would lose a lot of the function with a generic XP driver. Not going there and replacing all my stuff for a rubbish OP system, which I understand give people huge headaches. Thanks for the info about leaving the PC on. As I am broadband this machine is generally on 24/7 anyway and protected with surge protector, firewall, etc. I only turn the monitor off as that is an energy guzzler and I don't use a power saver or screensaver. They most often are responsible for crashing the PC.

I am convinced that it was the last windows updates a few days ago that have messed things up, as it was after that I had the loadqm.exe error. This is apparently related to MSN Messenger, which I rarely use so I have blocked it from start up and disabled the updater. Since then running sweet as a nut.....everything crossed it continues.
