OT: Kenda's knee surgery

Kenda's DH called and she is out of surgery. Her surgery got bumped up so she didn't have to wait until 2:00, YAY! The doctor cleaned out a lot of cartlidge, and the surgery took about 45 mins. as opposed to the 2 hours they were expecting. She's still in recovery, but the hospital told her DH she'd be ready to go home in about an hour. (We're expecting 2 hours, but maybe the hospital will be right.) Now it's just a matter of time to see how effective the surgery is. I'm sure Kenda will post once she can get to her 'puter but in the meantime I'll keep you all posted as I can. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers!

Glad it's over and that they cleaned stuff out. I hope that the result is one heck of a big improvement in her quality of life. No one especially injured on the job, should have to go what she is going through. Not in today's world!

Please give her a kiss and a hug from me!

I talked to Kenda yesterday. She's hurting, obviously, but not sure if it's from the surgery or the knee hurting. The doctor took off the arthritis, so hopefully that will be a big relief for her. The doctor did a lot of cleanup of cartlidge, etc. She goes back to the doctor in a couple weeks, though. She did say she's having a lot of drainage this time, which she didn't have the other knee surgeries. I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing! She's spending a lot of time resting on the couch and taking it easy though.

A big thank you to Deb for keeping everyone posted on how things have been going. So far I feel really good. I'm afraid to say I feel great for fear that something will go wrong! LOL Today is the first day I felt like getting to my computer. I've felt pretty good but I have wanted to keep the knee elevated and iced down. When I walk I use my cane but only because every now and then I have a searing pain in the inside of the knee, but other than that I am relatively pain free. Though the knee is still pretty swelled up, I will have to wait for all the swelling to go down to see how I actually feel.

The dr. was pretty surprised to see the amount of "shredded" cartilage that was on the femur. He told DH that if this doesn't ease the pain then a replace will be all that will take care of that. He was surprised at how much damage is there and I'm still walking around. (I kept telling him I have a very high pain tolerence, when well these dr.s ever listen! lol ) He also removed scrapped the back of the knee cap to remove the arthritis that had developed there. That was also scraped about a year ago. So now time will tell and I am hopeful that this will get me a few years down the road and then it can be re assessed. Thank you to everyone that kept me in their thoughts and prayers. Must go put leg up again.

It sounds like this surgery went much better than the last one. Take care of yourself and no dancing until you are completely healed!

Wow Kenda sounds pretty scary inside your knee, but the doctor sound very thorough and knows what he's doing. Sounds like you're going to get much better results this time. Thanks for taking the time to fill us in.

I am not dancing! LOL Though I have to say it is hard to stay still and not do anything. I am so used to getting up and doing what/when I want. I am spending alot of time on the couch with my leg up and iced.

Yes Lynne, it does sound like it was scary inside my knee! LOL That's a great way to put it. I feel better than Ihave in a really long time. I am just exhausted. I have walked around the house today with only little pain every now and again. That excites me, but I do'n't want to hold my breath.

I have been feeling better, just trying to remember to take it easy, and that's hard for me! lol

I am so grateful to this doctor. I have very little pain now and I am hoping that it continues to decrease as the swelling goes done. Today I was even able to walk without much of a limp, meaning I can bend the knee to walk properly!!! I do hope it continues. Even if the pain level that I have now doesn't reduce any further I can live with it as it's lots better than it was. (I'm just afraid that when the swelling goes down everything will start to rub against one another and it'll hurt again, but I'm trying to be optomistic!)

You're very welcome Kenda. I'm just glad you're feeling better. Glad to hear you're taking it easy, which I know is not easy for you. It really does sound like this doctor got things cleaned up like they should. I wonder if he knows Dr. Duck and will say something? hehehehe Wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall for that conversation! LOL But I'm glad he was able to clean it up real good. So far it sounds like the pain is at least at a level where you can live with it. YAY!!!! We'll play a play day once you're feeling up to it and I'm through with the Easter Egg Hunt!
