Surgery Complications/Pami

I didn't have my reconstruction surgery yesterday. I got sick in the Operating Room just after they gave me the Versed and asked for a bucket. My surgeon said cancel it. He wasn't going to take any chances. Not sure what is going on but I was ready but also very alert to what was around me. I seen the instruments on the table and so on. I'm not sure if it was my nerves or I might be getting the bug my son had. I guess it was best it happened then and not during surgery. I have to reschedule. I personally feel the anesthesiologist let the Versed go into the IV to fast. I did feel overwhelmed at first and then needed to sit up right a way!! Pami

Pami -- I'm sure you are eager to put this surgery behind you. But certainly the surgeon made the prudent decision to postpone. Were you supposed to be fully under general anesthetic? if so -- if you were to become ill again... you could end up in a "heap o' trouble" as my grammy used to say.

Will you now wait until the first of the year -- or still try to get it done before the holidays. Just remember that -- as with any surgery -- you will need LOTS of rest afterwards to let your body heal. So if you plan to do it before the holidays... make sure you have plenty of help and don't push yourself too hard!

Prayers for you...

Pami, I'm sorry things didn't go as planned. I'm sure it's a major disappointment. However, since you don't know for sure why you got sick, it's probably best to delay it.

Keeping you in my prayers,

It was supposed to be general surgery. I was so close to going out very soon. I guess I had an angel in OR. I will reschedule soon. I want it done and over with. I will however ask for anti-nausea drugs to combat the Versed ahead of time. The Versed just felt like it went in the IV to fast that I felt the need to gulp or swallow and with that I had to sit up right a way and ask for their surgical bucket. Pami

Rats! Hope it was the meds and not a bug getting you.

Sorry it has to be rescheduled but there must be a reason even if you don't know what it is. (((Pami)))

uh oh, Pami, best to not proceed til its figured out if it was the anesthetic or that nasty bug that made you chunder. cant take chances when theres an op to get thru. rebooking it is the best option. {{{{{{{{{{{Pami}}}}}}}}}}}} good luck on the next one going smoothly. do tell the drs all that you just told us, eh. the more info they've got the better to figure it all out. sending good luck and good vibes that this is all sorted out quickly and perfectly to your satisfaction. jeanne

Sorry to hear about the hic-up in your plans. But it sounds like you have a very wise doctor. It is only a minor delay.

I didn't see your original post, Pami, but I'm sorry to hear that it didn't go off as planned. OTOH, it's just as well to play it safe and just do it when *everything* is going right.

I'm sorry you had this setback, Pami -- hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for another date.
