OT: New furbaby!

DH has a new baby. Her name is Nikki. She's a 1 yr old Bassett. He had a bassett for several years until his senior year in high school. He's wanted another bassett for several years, but the opportunity never came up. It has now! He saw an ad for a free bassett on one of the local TV websites and I called about it yesterday. We picked her up last night and brought her home. DH is happy as can be! Nikki's a sweetheart, though. She wants desperately to play with Digit, who really isn't too sure about this new creature in the house. We're pretty much letting them work it out, though. I figure they'll either come to terms with each other and ignore each other, tolerate each other, or become buddies. I'm hoping for buddies, it would make things so much easier! You can see Nikki's pics on our flickr page here:

This is our first dog, but we both had dogs as kids. I haven't had a dog around since I was in the 6th grade, though. Thing is, growing up our dogs were outside-only dogs. Nikki will be predominately inside, so I'm having to dog-proof the house. As DH said last night "Nothing is sacred to a dog." LOL

He's very happy having her around. He's like a little kid again! LOL

Well, Nikki just lost points. She curled up in Digit's bed. ROFL A 50 pound dog, and a kitty bed are an interesting combination! Her back half is in the bed, the front half is smooshing the side of the bed. But she did manage to keep her nose in the bed. LOL Digit is NOT impressed. *mental note: must find dog bed very soon*

I had a talk with the furbabies about putting up with each other. LOL DH asked me last night "Are you going to take good care of my baby while I'm gone during the day?" Just a bit smitten, he is. LOL

Niki is so adorable! Such a cutie. I love basset hounds! Enjoy and I hope the two furbabies work everything out :)

How adorable! She's probably colored just like a Bassett Hound, but she's colored just like my dad's Brittany Spaniel. My kids and husband have been gently testing the "new furbaby" waters with me lately. I'm just not ready, but I just love seeing and hearing about everyone else's new adorable furbabies. You all are pushing me closer to getting one myself.

How is Digit doing with her treatments? Are you done? She sure is as adorable as ever. Even though she looked about alarmed in a few photos.

Oh my gosh that made me laugh! I remember how Radar reacted when we brought Nuku home and there is one picture there of Digit that is in exactly the same posture as Radar was. As for the puppy ...cute and I'm glad that Brad now has a critter that he has wanted for so very long!

She's a cutie, isn't she? DH loves bassetts, too. I think they're slowly working things out.

She has some small brown spots that DH says will keep growing as she grows.

It certainly takes time to heal after losing a furbaby. We got a kitten just a few months after losing Bagheera in 2001, and looking back, that really was too soon. We didn't keep the kitten for a full year before we got rid of him for various reasons. I'm glad we waited so long before getting Digit, though. By the time I got Digit, I really was healed after losing Bagheera and was ready for another kitty. Just take your time and you'll know when you're ready for another furbaby.

Digit is all better now. :-) He's got a couple very tiny spots on his head that are still healing, but they're just small scabs now. The vet's said that as long as Digit doesn't get worse, there's no need for anymore stinky baths, meds, etc. YAY! He's losing his stinkiness, too. He's getting better with Nikki, too. I keep watching them very carefully when they get close to each other, etc. I think the bopping on the nose and chasing is starting to become a game to them, but not sure yet.

Isn't it funny how they react to a new furbaby in the house? LOL Although Digit was not very happy when Nikki laid on his bed. It's all washed and dried now and on the cedar chest where Nikki can't get it. I've put Digit's food and water up where Nikki can't get to them, either. It's not so much his water, as her food! I don't know what it is with the cat's food, but Nikki thinks it tastes better than her dog food. LOL Brad is definately in heaven. I bought Nikki a couple toys yesterday and left them for DH to give her last night. Points made all around! LOL

Isn't she? I had to walk her down to the school yesterday to get DD after tutoring so the principal could see the "new baby". LOL Nikki just ate up all the attention from the kids who pet her, the principal, and a couple teachers too.

Adorable baby Deb!! I can't wait to meet her! We'll have to make a play date for our babies to meet. Perhaps at the dog park? That way they could play at your/my house and we could "play".

She's like Joy, though. "It's a good thing she's pretty." DH says Nikki's learning curve is more like a "sheer cliff". LOL We'll definately have to set up a play date for the babies and us. Gotta get through the Easter Egg Hunt first though!
