OT (kinda): Taekwondo news!

DD just passed her Orange belt test today!!! I'm so happy and proud of her. She's excited that she gets to go with the bigger kids her age now. I even got a few pics, too. I don't know how well they came out since I didn't use the digital camera. (It doesn't do fast shots very well.) I'm hoping these pics are scrap-worthy, but I'm having a hard time finding Taekwondo paper and what-not. I've seen Karate, but not Taekwondo. :-( I do have a Jolee's martial arts set, but so far I haven't seen paper that really works. Anybody have any ideas?

you could do what Amy does... make your own paper! Scan in some of the brochures and emblems... take the opacity down to about 30% or whatever you like and print! even if you only print 8.5 x 11 it would work for titles and tags and all kinds of stuff.. make sure you print it on cardstock tho.. that is acid free..

That's great news. A lady I work with daughters both do that. They have been doing it for 9 years. One is a sophomore in high school and the other is a sophomore in college. They are both 2nd degree black belts. She scraps too. I will ask her if she has scrapped any pages on that yet. She's been working on her oldest daughters scrap book. I will let you know. She's out of work until next week.

Duh! I've been wanting to come up with some of my own paper. Thanks for the reminder RJ!

Thanks Shannon. I would love to hear of any papers she's been able to find and where, of course. :-) I'm definately going to take a few pics to use to make some paper.

Congrats! That is great!

I live with 3 TKD black belts and share your pain with finding TKD specific stuff. I actually bought a graduation kit and plan to put their black belt pictures in it. Its all "you worked hard" and "what an accomplishment". It was the closest thing I could find. I'm using their programs as background paper-most have their region logo on it with their schools' name on the other side (I always grab several programs, I'm sure the other families think I'm weird, but it works!). There are tons of TKD classes around here (Minnesota), its a wonder someone doesn't come out with TKD specific supplies. Good luck with your scrapping and one big congratulations to your DD. Kathy

Thank you from DD. :-) I'm not sure how far DD wants to take this. April will be our 1 yr mark, so we may just let her decide then if she wants to stay in TKD. But TKD seems to be very popular, which makes me wonder why the paper companies haven't caught on yet.

Well done to DD Deb :o) I found this link to some Martial Arts titles that may be useful although you will need to download the font from the link given under the titles.

Firstly - Congrats to you and your daughter! And then I must admit my ignorance - what is Taekwondo? I gather it is some kind of martial art, but over here we only know of Karate, Judo, Yoga, Kick-boxing (Taibow) and Tai Chi. All I can think of is to use orange in the LO, if you can't find anything else closer relating there to! Sorry!

Thanks Judy. Taekwondo is a form of martial arts from Korea. Here's a link to the American Taekwondo Association. Click on the Taekwondo tab at the top to read about all about it.

It's really helped DD. Before taekwondo, DS would hit her and she'd just whine "nooo...stop!" It was pitiful. Here he is, 2 1/2 years younger than her, shorter than her, and she was letting him be mean to her. Plus she was getting bullied at school, and she would just take it and cry. I couldn't believe my daughter was a doormat! That's changed. LOL Shortly after she started taekwondo, she started telling him in a more forceful voice "NO!" when he would start to hit her. A couple weeks ago, he was hitting her with a little soft spongy dart, not hurting her, just annoying her. She kept telling him "NO! Stop!" He didn't, so she side-kicked him. It startled DS, and he took a couple steps backwards, stumbled against the wall and kinda slid down. Of course, being MOM, I had to get on to DS for hitting, and get on to DD for kicking him when it wasn't neccessary. But it sure is nice to know that my daughter isn't this little doormat anymore. Thankfully she's not a bully, either. But her self-confidence has really improved!
