OT: Memorial Day thoughts....

I was sitting with my niece who is now 1 month old and three days old watching the parade as she was giggling (maybe gurgling) and bouncing to the military bands, I realized that some of us take way to much for granted.

I found these wonderful websites and thought maybe while we are making our cards to family and friends we can make them as well for absolute strangers:

Just remember Jacqui's husband is overseas and Dave served for us (to help us be enablers).

Just an idea, Kate

I was thinking the same thing. I came across a site with address on where to right the men and women who serve our country. I was thinking of getting a group of cards together and sending all at once.

Thank You Kate! That is really nice. I have seen or heard of those sites.

Teresa (razzmatazz?) in MD and her Dh were both in during Desert Storm too. He and i were at the same place and he also retired. MC also retired from serving our/her country!!

Thank you again and you are so right, there are many vets ut there who need special thoughts AND prayers.

Well, we're very sad here at my place. My husband found out today that his good friend in Iraq was killed. We were out of town camping and no way to contact us. So, as we came out of the hills this afternoon my cell phone starting beeping and we got the news. We were still 4 hours from home and our friends. It was agonizing. Trying to hold it together for the kids until we got all the news and had something to share with the kids about our friend. It's kind of ironic that we'd hear the news today of all days.

I'm not sure if you all can get this link to work because it was on AOL (my service provider) but I thought I'd try:

Lynne, I am so sorry for your loss. I feel so sad that so many young people are being lost in yet another war. I spent the first 10 years of my life in the tragedy of WWII, and my teen years with Korea, losing some of my friends there, then Viet Nam when my children were small and my young brothers were faced with the draft. A dear friend lost her daughter to the Gulf War and then there was the Desert Storm. It just seems that mankind will never solve any problems without blood shed. In my daily prayers,I pray that we will rise above this and live together in peace. It just seems that this is a lesson that is too hard for the learning. I will remember your friend in my prayers and thoughts.

Hugs, Sabrina in Kentucky

Lynne my praters are with you and your dh's friend's family.

OMG Jacqui, I can relate to those noises. The AFB near me sounds their air raid sirens everso often nad talk about gettng unnerved, I look for incoming scuds!!

It is so sad that people in todays society of believers refuse to believe that that part of the world has seen bloodshed and war since the beginning of time. It is just sad that there are people and religions out there that just do not believe in anything but their OWN beliefs. They will answer on the big day.

My prayers are always with our servicepeople over there. I have known 4 now that have been killed there and found out by reading about them in the Army Times paper which I have subscribed to since I retired.

{{HUGS}} to all

Oh Lynne how absolutely aweful! I'm trying to catch up on all the posts and just read this! Everytime I hear about people losing friends I feel for them. Losing a close friend is often harder than losing a family member. I'll keep you and your friend's family in my prayers.

Thank goodness he was able to call you back and let you know all was well. In this day and age of the phone and email sometimes I think we're closer to what's going on than we want to be. We got email's from Mike almost daily and he'd email us pictures.
