OT: My ebay headache

It's totally my fault too that's the real kicker. At the bottom of this auction I won it said they except PayPal payments only the first 24 hours of closing of the auction. I didn't read it. Ebays policy has been that the seller and the buyer have 72 hours to contact one another about payment. So, I've always known that I have at least 3 days to pay for something with Paypal. Now this sellers is being very rude to me. I paid the next day. Less that 48 hours but more than 24. They rejected my payment. Their rules also say that one can pay by MO within 3 days. Now they won't accept my PayPal payment which would much faster than Money Order, but I'm to go out and get a Money Order and send it to them, which could take a week to get to them rather than a few minutes with Paypal.

I'm just floored by the unreasonableness of these people. And I'm so mad at myself for not catching it. They say right at the bottom of their page essentially "Were unreasonable and if you don't like it don't bid." I'm paraphasing or course. haha Anyhow lesson learned. If I'm not going to read the fine print don't bid, because there might be an unreasonable condition to the auction.

Thanks for letting me bellyache, Lynne

I bid on one the other day that was an instant payment if you bid. I had never seen one of those before. ebay has changed so much since they started. It has become big business by so many of the sellers. I know someone who quit her job and strictly sells on ebay now - she goes to yardsales and thrift stores and makes around $800 a week after expenses. And I'm sure that's low compared to many of the other sellers. Whenever I see an auction that has restrictions about paying sooner than the

72 hour contact time or less than the usual 10 days it sends up red flags. I really go through their feedback to look for problem signals. I've never had a problem on ebay - except with the shipping/handling issue recently, but there have been several items I would really have liked to have bid on an item if it weren't for unusual restrictions. If they have to have the money immediately it makes you wonder what their problem is........... I also wonder how many of the dealers/sellers on ebay pay self-employment taxes. There's a big difference between selling your own stuff from home you want to just get rid of and reselling items to make a profit/income. Sandy

HI.

You can use

formatting link
which is western union for money orders. Log a complaint with eBay of the problems you encountered.

I know eBay is getting too big for their britches but so aren't the sellers. I use Yahoo Auctions and Overstock Auctions.

I used to sell on Ebay and pulled all my stuff in October. They are getting unreasonable with their fees as are some of the sellers. My recommendation is next time you want to go shopping to check put

formatting link
or
formatting link
but have nice auctions and the sellers are much nicer.

I would pay the auction with a money order and then let your feelings be known with your feedback after you receive your item.
