OT: Need to talk

Well, I have had a couple of days and now I just need to vent. We took my son 18 mo.s for a well baby check up and for some vaccinations. While we were there his doctor discovered an Inguinal Hernia and now he needs to go for surgery. They say that some people are just born with weak abdominals and the hernia can come out when they are babies or much later in life (IE: 30, 40, etc....). While he is getting the surgery they will probably check the other side as well. We will know much more on Tuesday when we visit the Pediatric Surgeon. Which is the same day that my DH and I have dentist appt.s. I had root canal because I had a vertical fracture from grinding my teeth at night ( they say that's do to STRESS) LOL. Who doesn't have stress. So, that day should be nice and relaxing! Friday night ( actually Sat. AM) my neighbors car had its windows smashed in on it's mini van. All of the windows were smashed except one. Well, when we got up this AM my Dad's Stationwagon rear windshield was also smashed in. We called the police and they said it's probably due to Criminal Mischief. I certainly hope the rest of the week is a little smoother than the last one. Thanks for listening to me babble but I really needed to talk to you.

God Bless to all, Dorothy in NY

Goodness gracious, Dorothy! Must have been something in the air. My week was terrible, too. My dog died, my car broke down on a bridge between New Orleans and Baton Rouge (at night) and I had two sick step children. At least it's over and can only get better! :)

Why the heck does everything bad seem to happen in one week. Just know it's all up hill once the surgery and root canal are done. I had a root canal 9 years ago and my tooth hurt SO much before hand that the root canal was a relief. The dentist will take good care of you. The pediatric surgeon will also take good care of the whole family too. My daughter had surgery on her ear when she was 18 months and I was so amazed at how kind the surgeon was to us knowing it was our BABY he was working on. He really kept our fragile state in mind.

Hang in there Dorothy and talk to us anytime.

Dear Dorothy,

What a horrible week you've had. I know it's easier said than done but don't worry too much about the little one. My son had the same problem, discovered when he was 6. By that time he was a surgery expert having been through 6-7 surgeries as a result of a hae lip and cleft palate. He's had 4 since then. That was one of the easy ones though he did walk around hunched over for 48 hours or so.

It's actually a good thing that they found it now. Surgery is so much easier on them when they are younger. They bounce back so fast you're left wondering why you feel so drained and they are up and at it.

Don't worry about sharing either. It's one of the things that keeps us sane during the tough darker moments.

Thank you ALL SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH! for your blessings, prayers and well wishes! I will keep in touch and let you all know what's doing. My Dad's insurance company is sending someone over tomorrow to fix the rear windshield. When the Police officer came to the house he said it has been happening all over our area and a couple of neighbors said friends of theirs had all their windows broken last night; Including a family on the corner of our block. So, hopefully they will catch the vandals really SOON!!
