nagging works!

Here's a pic of the I Spy center section. The next picture in the webshots album is of the pictures I printed on fabric. The picture of the pictures came out pretty well! No more work this afternoon. I have to take DD to physical therapy. Her broken leg is a long ways from healed.

Gosh! I could spend hours looking for things on that quilt - and telling everyone what I had found. Marvellous. (Really sorry about DD's leg still giving her trouble, though I suppose it isn't all that long, as these things go?) . In message , KJ writes

They came out better than "pretty well!!" They look like service-bureau quality photos!! :-)

I love the fabrics you're using!! The "bee" in the upper right hand corner is a fabric that I have (and still waitin' for the perfect project, LOL!) and LOVE! :-)

You are VERY talented!! I hope the lucky recipient of this quilt (and all the others) appreciates it!! :-)

I'm so sorry ... I hope her leg heals right quick!! Give her and you a hug for me!

That's my hope Pat. I envision these quilts as tagging along with the little tykes and being a source of entertainment in the car or crib. I want stories to be made up from the pictures, and then revised and retold. I did have a report from one family that the child would use his quilt as a delay tactic for bedtime. He'd distract his parents by getting them started naming pictures. heheheh Clever lad! DD's leg is probably healed up .....bone-wize. But she has terrible swelling and then pain when she's upright for very long. There are also parts of her foot that are still numb. It's been 8 weeks since the injury. It's been a real effort for her to continue to work (high school band director...it's marching band season!) and she's getting a bit depressed just sitting around the house.

Sounds great, Kathyl. It's really bad luck about your DD's leg. I suppose these days when they are not in a plaster cast recovery is, at least, different from what we used to know. I do hope you get some tissue improvement very soon - especially the numbness that I know you are worried about. Presumably the physio. can report to the doctors, if there is anything he is not happy about? So, she is still under medical supervision - even if one step removed. . In message , KJ writes

The pics look great, Kathyl! You're very good at that. :) I'm sorry about your DD's leg -- I hope it improves soon.

She still has a doctor's appointment next week. The therapy appointment was good in that they gave her some exercises to start building her muscles back up. The therapist was one of my friends from quilt guild! I'd forgotten she works there. I think it's just going to be a long, uncomfortable recovery.

KJ, yours is the first "I Spy" quilt I have seen. Not having kids, or even being around kids, I kind of had a concept in my "minds eye" on what they were all about. This is waaaaaay cute! Lucky little boy or girl that receives this..... hours of fun!!

How is she getting along with the marching band? Our band instructor used to climb up to the press box (or at least the top of the bleachers) to watch our formations. I imagine that's kind of difficult for her!

Is BF still in the picture to encourage her through the therapy? Now that I think about it, that might not work. You need somebody tough enough to not feel sorry for you, and boyfriends aren't necessarily good at that! That's why I was glad DH went to a therapist after his knee replacement - I knew I would be too soft on him!

try not to worry too much, about 10 years ago I fell and didn't actually break my leg, but it must have been pretty close, I'm not sure if you can do bone damage without actually breaking it, there was very bad bruising and it healed at first, then kind of stopped, I had the visible marks of a bruise there for a full two years and it was kind of indented. Painful after standing and walking for a while etc. but it did heal - from friends who have had broken bones I gather that this is to be expected, it just takes time for the strength to be built up again. I hope the PT can help.

She isn't going up to the press box. Last game DH and I wheeled her in the wheelchair to the 50 yard line so she could get her drum major "started". It was the first game of the year, so there were some rough edges. But not bad. She was exhausted by halftime. Second game is tomorrow night. Yes, her BF (and soon to be fiance) is still in the picture and is still outstanding help to her. I think he'll be a pretty good exercise partner....he seems tough on the outside but has a heart of gold. (I'm too soft.) When she was in the hospital, he "ordered" her to swing her leg off the bed to get up for the bathroom. While she was in the loo, he said to me, "did you hear my tough love?" I answered, "yes". Then he said, "it made my heart hurt." It was sweet. He put her meds schedule into his cell phone scheduler and would make sure she took everything at the right times. He'd call or text her from work even though I was there to help out. ;-) There were days I was almost a bit jealous...wouldn't we all like to be doted on for even a short time??? Thanks for asking about her. She hit a low point this week but I think she'll start perking up again as she can get some exercising done.

Those are the stories I like to hear. Thanks!

I thought the 2 years thing might be a bit depressing! Though it really was only the odd twinge most of that time, it was the fact there was still a visible mark that bothered me, but if there isn't actually any cut skin then it should all go eventually!

Sounds like it's going to be a long haul for her, but Wow! It sounds like that BF is a treasure. All in all, I think you have one lucky daughter (not that she doesn't deserve it, but we don't always get what we deserve!).

Oh yeah, there will be quite a scar on the back of her leg and one at her knee. The one on the back is where the bone poked through and the surgeon opened it up to clean it out and examine for nerve damage. (The nerve was intact...but might have been stretched.) The one one the front of her knee is from the insertion of the titanium rod in her tibia. I'm just hoping for a full recovery...no matter how long it takes. She was training for a marathon, but now I'm just hoping she can walk down the aisle and dance at her wedding.....which is tentively scheduled for December of

08.

Tell your DD from me to hang in there! PT *does* work, even though it seems like torture at the time. :) Six months ago I couldn't ride a quarter mile without yelping in pain from my knee -- yesterday I did 24 miles with only a slight discomfort.

Oh, Mama. It takes TIME, no matter what she wants she can NOT rush it. PT is GOOD as it gives her strength and lets her 'see' goals met. Remember when I had toe/foot surgery Dec 27, '05? Well, .last night the area was swollen. I had walked on cement (in my tenny shoes with ortho inserts) LONGER than normal.and I paid for it. No pain--just swelling. Dr said the first 6/8 weeks the MOST of the healing occurs and it slows down from there for the next 1 to 2 YEARS depending on your PERSONAL healing time.

There is a reason they say Patience is a virtue-- sometimes I don't want Virtue--I want HEALING.

Give her a Hug from all of us

Butterfly (There is a reason I was told NOT to walk any more than I have to for the next year--since the last fracture last fall--it's working--NO MORE fractures)
