After a compound greenstick fracture of both bones in his lower leg, my bro was in plaster for over 16 weeks. It took a further six months of intense physio to get it back to full strength. This was after the very unpleasant bone jigsaw surgery he got by a brilliant Polish orthopaedic surgeon who specialized in paediatric stuff (after cutting his eye teeth putting smashed aircrew back together in the last Great Unpleasantness). So expect it to take time and be relaxed in manner while vigilant and stern about the physio exercises being done properly! Things WILL get better.

Over 35 years after the event, bro has a nasty scar and walks with a limp when tired. His shoes wear unevenly. It's impossible to tell in any other way that he came within millimetres of losing the leg.

And here's one of mine: . Actually, it's the only one I've really made. However, it's also followed on the page by three I made from preprinted panels; they were nap quilts for the DGSs when they went to nursery school.

Wow, Sandy! Very cute! I really like these, because, being a "brights" person, I just love the colors! You did a great job on it - thanks for sharing!

It's simpler and faster, but the idea is pretty much the same. Buy as many novelty prints as possible!!! :-)

Thanks! I'm pretty proud of him and the other boys. We all went out to dinner last night (Chevy's has a *wonderful* mango margarita these days), and all four boys had good news to share. Benjamin (8) had 100 on his spelling test (as usual ), his brother Dominic (6) was student of the week, cousin Andrew (also 6) had rated "purple" (highest behavior rating) for two consecutive days, and his brother Aidan (3) had gone to nursery school without crying for the first time.

Thanks again! We're sort of pleased with how they're turning out. No bias here -- nope, none at all!

That one, with the dimensional corners, was rather a bear to make. I'd go for "simpler" anytime! If I do make another I Spy, it will definitely be a different pattern from that book.

YEAH! The little pocket corners elicited a lot of nasty words from me! A real pain in the patoot! I think I misspoke. I've made one with the little foldy corners ala Ami Simms' method....never again. And I've made another more traditional I Spy with the hexagons and the triangle corners. Again, a bit too much work for the results. I'm on my 4th "simple" I Spy and I still think I like it as much (or better) than the others. The top is now all put together....now it's time to put the words in the border.

I think having it go together easily is key here.

I made two. They're easier than I thought. Sewing them is really easy, but cutting is a bit more work than using simple squares. I had sturdy plastic templates and pretty much followed the directions at

I have the templates too. And you are right, the sewing is easy. Of course I had to make it more complicated by trying to vary the triangles so I would get stars when put together. Sigh. I've found that by using the simple squares, I get more of the picture motif in each block. There were some fabrics that didn't fit the hexagon very well.

This is interesting I just got this message (Wednesday, the 19th) and it was sent on Friday, the 14th. Where do these messages go? A walkabout?
