OT: New Start

Hello all!

Ok, so my friends wedding is over! (Oh - I need to get the invites posted!) So, other than ferry issues an a cake that was an hour late, a fun time was had by all, and they are happily honeymooning.

However, thanks to the glory of digital photography, I saw some pics the next day, and well, ugh. I need to lose weight. My vision in my head of how I look and reality are different!

So - today is the first day of the rest of my life, as they say. So I've joined Weight watchers online, and Sparkpeople (free!). Sparkpeople has lots of forums, and I've already signed up for "scrap to lose" :)

It's scarier than I thought, knowing I have to change habits, and rethink how I do things. I find myself afraid of failure! So - I am reaching out to all my friends for support, and accountability

If anyone else here has had stories, experiences they'd like to share, they're welcome.

And, I plan on creating a scrapbook of the experience.

Thank you all,

Jessica

Just a couple of things: Weight Watchers has the highest success rate of people who not only get the weight off, but keep it off. So something they are doing must be right.

We watched this program on CNN about two years ago on long term weight loss success. It was a group that has studied people who have lost at least 50 pounds and kept it off for more than 2 years. They said all long term weight loss successes have the following in common: Expect failure but keep trying Don't deny yourself Weigh yourself often Exercise an hour a day Add bits of activity to your daily routine Eat a high carb-low fat diet Average 5 meals a day

Both DH and I have been living by these rules for several years, just didn't know it. We did the "eat less-exercise more" routine. Matt lost almost 50 pounds, I lost just under 30. And now I can run a marathon. When I started, I couldn't even run a block. At my old job, several people did weight watchers and lost. And one of my coworkers was on the Biggest Loser and she said the same thing (from the 50 states edition-she was Melinda from Alabama and yes, she was really from Minnesota). She said the key for her was she never took real time for herself. She encouraged us all to walk during our breaks and lunch. Easy way to break up the exercise and fit it in during the day.

You CAN do it-that's all I can say.

Keep us posted on your progress. Kathy

Jessica,

Great job on taking that first step! It is difficult to lose weight but if you really want it done, then you CAN
