Postbound album Q

I added pages to my first postbound album tonight. I've been a strap hinge girl for many years. Do you need to use the spacers? If so, how or where? Do you add the posts for every set of five pages? How many sets of posts can you add to one album safely? Thanks.

Hi Jenn,

I've been a post girl for years. I tend to add posts when it is impossible to add anymore and close it. If I have 5 posts, I tend to glue them together so they don't fall apart due to use. It also reinforces your binder.

Just remember 3 ring binders come up to 4" so your albums can be the same width. But I'd suggest that you reinforce three posts by gluing them with glue but keeping the three separate so you can unscrew the lot if necessary.

Hope it helps, Kate

I did my first postbound album and I didn't know what all those extra post thingies were for. I didn't keep track of them and now I have an album that is too full and I need them! Where oh where are they!!! My albums has 26 pre-decorated pages waiting for pictures. I feel bad cause I did this album for a friend. Fortunately, she doesn't have a clue, but she will once she gets to filling it. This month she joins my scrap group to do just that. I need extra posts. Where does one find them?

You can find them in the hardware section of Lowe's. Take one with you and buy the whole thing, not just the extension if you can (some don't fit so well). they come in a few lengths.

Yes you need spacers, especially if you have bulky pages. I bought a large scrap of mat board from the Michaels Framing Department and just cut it into strips and then punched holes (that's the hard part!) in them. I usually add them every five or six pages. If you lay the book flat without the cover, then it is easier to see where you need to add the spacers.

Lynne, your lss should have extra posts for sale. If they don't let me know and I can get you some from one of the stores near me.

I never thought about using mat board. I use craft foam to make my spacers - I always have pieces left over from projects at the childcare and it's easy to cut. Sandy

I have been to several LSS and they act like I'm speaking Japanese. I'm just floored that they don't walk me over to a baggie full of them to purchase and bring home. Do they come in different sizes? I wonder if the diameter is different. I really need some. Your help would be greatly appreciated. I gave her the album in October and never photographed my work. I just got it back from her and want to take pictures of it and fix the post problem.

I've used the ones from Lowes in K&co albums, colorbok albums, generic albums, and in the ones from joannes.... they all worked. and they were less than a buck for a handful.

I put the spacers every 10 or 15 pages. As for post extenders, I go to the hardware store and buy one long post. This way you don't have to keep adding those tiny little extensions. You can find the post screws in the section where everything is in little drawers. They have all different lengths and they only cost around a quarter, different prices for different sizes.

I found that the number of pages per spacer varies alot. It depends upon how thick you make your pages. Some of my really 3-D pages require a spacer per page. Flat pages are about 5 - 7 per spacer. Peggy from NJ

Thanks. This is for my Christmas photo card album so I don't plan on making the pages thick at all. It's a quickie project.

Thanks. After using two of them (the first didn't need any refill pages--it was a vacation album so it was short), I'm not so sure I'm sold on postbound. I don't like the way it closes and they just don't seem as expandable as strap hinge. I bought two others recently and I guess after I finish those I'll decide if I go back or not.

Thanks. The mats are a good idea for spacers. The refills only give you one or two, IIRC.

Interesing. I'd imagine it is stronger using one long post.

It's funny some stores carry them and some don't. I got the same reaction at one of my lss and then the next one I went to had lots of them.

They do come in different sizes. What brand album is it? I have a few that are too small for my albums I can send those to you and you can see if they work for you. Just let me know.

That's a great idea. A lot easier to punch holes in the foam! I'll have to try that.
