RE: Post Bound Albums

I am considering making the change to post bound albums. I currently use CM Strap Hinge albums and I like that they are extremely durable and can hold a lot of pages. I do not however like the price. The post bound seem to be cheaper and the refill pages are definetly cheaper. Are they durable though? I seem to have trouble finding info about the maximum amount of pages albums can hold. I see that they sell extenders but they seem hard to find, is this true? Are the posts interchangeable with different albums? How many pages can you fit in your album with the post extenders and what is the biggest size extender that they sell? Any help or opinions with this would be greatly appreciated!

Amy,

I have always used post bound albums. I have the CM Strap Album and hate it. I can never figure out how to get it to lie straight after I add pages.

I have used post bound albums for years. The oldest one dates to 1985. I have one that is 3 1/2" in height. I just had to superglue sections of the posts together for extra strength though..

I bought a couple post bound albums over the last few years and I'm not convinced I like them better yet. The extensions don't always screw on like the should and I have to keep screwing and unscrewing to get the thread to set correctly. Then I had a few refills where the posts wouldn't screw on all the way. And they seem wobbly sometimes... I like Kate's idea of super gluing. May have to try that. Yeah the strap hinges are a pain too, but one they are together I'm really happy with how they look and feel. I had several lessons from a Creative Memories consultant to learn how to keep them from being so loose. I'd take my album to her house and say "HELP!" She was so nice and would straighten them up for me. Now I can do it myself.

I like my CM albums and I have no problems with the straps....I am a pro at that. The price is the issue now, I just can't afford them anymore. They are up to like $38.00 with only 15 pages and that doesn't include the protectors. The post bound seem to be a lot more reasonable. So, do the extensions screw into the the posts that are already in the album? If so, how many can you connect? I am a bit confused about this part.

Binder screw posts come in a variety of lengths up to 3 inches or so. Extension posts too. Try

My local home improvement store, Lowes, carries binder posts and extensions. They are much more expensive then the above link and a better quality.

Amy, You can get solid posts at the hardware store. They come in many lengths and are very sturdy (much more so than adding all those extensions together). I have done a 4-inch one with no problems.

One of the neat new things out there is the system by Pioneer. I think it is called snap load. It works really well is amazingly quick and easy to use and as long as you make sure that it is well glued down it's sturdy. Deb put a huge amount of pages into her parent's album using that system and it seemed to work really well.

Those things are marvelous! I must have had close to 70 pages in my parents' album, and the Pioneer thingies were really great. Honestly, I like them better than putting in post extension after post extension!
