Quick Kutz, Sizzix, or sidekick??

I'm very sorry, I know we've talked about this before, but I can't find the threads. I'm guessing nobody will mind if I bring it up again. :-)

I've got some bonus money that is burning a hole in my wallet. I know I want to buy a die cut machine but can't decide which one. Any thoughts and feedback would be helpful. I have nothing now so I have to buy the machine and the letters. So I am trying to look for the best *bang* for the buck. Thanks!!!

Quick Kutz:

  • Pro -Easy to carry
  • Con - Not available at Michael's, only seen online
  • Question - can QK use Sizzix dies? Think I remember that from the previous thread.

Sizzix:

  • Pro -- Michael's has a 50% off coupon on Friday!!
  • Con - not very portable, not a major issue

Sidekick:

  • Con -- heard about other people problem with breakage.

I vote for Sizzix because you can always bring your favorite dies to your LSS for a crop and use theirs.

The sidekick is hard to use and the dies are a little pricey for me.

Hope it helps, Kate

I haven't used any other machines except for the Sizzix machine and I love it.

You cannot use sizzix dies in a quickuts, but you can use quickutz dies in the sizzix machine. Likewise you can use the sizzlet dies in the sizzix with the converter but not in the quickutz.

Well I just got my Sidekick yesterday, bought it on Ebay, and well so far I love it, Its cute little and very portable! I have the Fiskars cutting system and use that alot, even though I have trouble cutting sometimes, but those bigger shapes are something I don't need in a die because I have the shapecutters, so I just needed something smaller. I have about 5 sets for the sidekick, and they are small and quite cute. Haven't had any trouble with it breaking or the cutting pads breaking, but i give it time..lol I have been using it like crazy. I just had a baby girl in December, so I use the flowers alot on her scrapbook pages. I love it. I do want a bigger one later down the road. but for now this will do. Also I just ordered Girls Are Weird font for my sidekick, and I think I will use that like crazy!! I Haven't used any Sizzix or QK, but I am sure I will be soon at my LSS this weekend for the crop. I will let you know what I think. Check out ebay for the machines and what not, sometimes people sell them super cheep. But you have to look around!!

Bluejean -- Can you tell me why you sold the sizzix? Why didn't you like it?

I would love to try it! Give me a call or drop me an email. I missed your AIM yesterday by 3 minutes! :-(

well the dies were huge, they were plastic, and the machine was too bulky... again, I have used the sidekick too and it just seems cheaply built to me compared to my QK... and they are built half out of plastic... the QK are all metal... the quality is there and so is the customer service... I've called QK and they deal directly with you... try that with sizzix....

3 minutes? LOLOL ah well... typical...

I use a sizzix and love it. I know some people consider it bulky to deal with for crops and such, but I used a Accu-cut Mark IV before the sizzix. For me to set the sizzix and dies into the bottom of a rolling toolbox is not a big deal. And it uses the other dies - sizzlets & quickutz. Sandy

You know that you are REALLY addicted to scrapbooking when the cashier at Michael's say to you "It really gets your adrenalin up doesn't it?" just before you say "wahoo" and pay $135. LOL

I went to Michael's this morning armed with my 50% & 40% coupons. I bought the sizzix machine and the SansSarif upper case. Of course, I couldn't walk past the 6 for $1 paper! I didn't get a cart so my arms were shaking by the time I got to checkout holding the machine and dies.

I just got back from my second trip with the second 50% coupon (thank you mom!) where I bought the Playground 4-in-1 set.

Hey! I only went over my bonus budget by $16! :-)

Now I have to go back to work...I can't even play with it! LOL

Gosh money bags. LOL. I just got back and only spend 13.00. I used both the 50 and 40 percent off. I just got a couple of small sizzix dies for my machine.

I love my Sizzix, too. I have the Sizzlets as well. I use mine quite a lot. I have three alphs and a modest collection of dies. I have never had occasion to take it anywhere...well once to a friends house ..and it wan't that difficult to carry. I really enjoy mine.
