Welcome Cavaliers

Welcome Cavaliers!

Okay, I'm going to totally confuse you but I didn't want this to get lost in the minutea of that last string of advice:

Don't use gluesticks! If they say they are acid-free they won't be durable. And if they are durable, they're not really acid free. Go to Winners or your LSS and get advice on adhesives. Our WalMart carries Mounting Stickers, 500 per box for under 2 USD. They ARE acid free, easy to use and last forever. -- I'm sorry it's just that I'm on a personal mission to inform everyone about the dangers of gluesticks. I learned the hard way!

You should venture to the LSS and talik to customers, scrapbookers are notoriously friendly and love to share with each other... it's part of the fun of going to the scrapbooking stores. Also, they usually offer a beginner's class (as well as other topics) that are fun to go to.

Sizzix is great but pricy because you have to buy each die cut. I don't know how far "a few miles" is. Some scrapbook stores will let you use their die cut machines for a small fee (and the price fo the paper of coures). Our LSS has a die cut club, it's like $15 for a year of unlimited use of their die cuts and machines. Well worth the money. So I'd look into finding out if your LSS has that available. And, you might decide die cuts aren't something you're into. Maybe you'd prefer a WishBlade where you can die cut your alphabets using any font on your computer. Ultimately they're probably about the same cost. With Wishblade you pay it all up front and with Sizzix you pay every time you want a new pattern.

Best of luck. Just my two cents -- and I'm sure it'll be controversial to some -- do with it what you will!

I have to say I will never use glue again. I used a liquid acid free glue when I had ran out of tape. I made all of my pages wavy after it dried. I wish I would have never used glue. HTHs. Good luck.

I too, used them and the next year things were sliding out of my album. Took me a few months to realize it was the glue stick pages. They had completely dried out and everything was slipping off the pages. Thank goodness I'm a slow scrapper, but it took me a whole evening to fix all the pages that were coming a part at that time. I really like the CM adhesives. I'm sure one that are like them are very good too

The pictures and embellishments eventually popped off the pages and sometimes the pictures and papers corners would curl up. mounting adhesives are more economical (because ultimately they last longer) and are comprable in price. The CM adhesives are photo safe, acid free and meet ISO standards (International Photo-Safety) and pass the PAT test (Photogratesaphic Activity Test). Fiskers has a similar product which I use in a pinch it's as cheap as a glue stick (at Wal-Mart at least) and I haven't seen any problems yet.

Never use any product that contains sulfur (such as rubber cement) sulfur is highly distructive and many glues contain it.

Creative Memories (direct sales only) is in the business of preserving photographs. That's their goal, to teach everyone to protect and cherish their photographs. They spent a million dollars every year in testing their own products and all the products on the market. They don't sell glue sticks because their is not a formula that passes both the photo safe test and the longevity, durability test. They know how popular glue sticks are and because they are a money-making business they'd love to get into that market, it just does not fit into their preservation standards.

No I'm not a consultant. Yes I was in the past.

I was at CKC in St. Louis today taking classes. Would you believe in two of the classes I took they supplied glue sticks for us to use as the adhesive on the project. I pulled my mono glue out of my bag and used it instead. Sandy

Well, I've got some glue (not it's not a glue stick) hope it's all right - it called Tombo mono multi liquid glue. It has two applicators and is removable or permanent. Also, got some little sticky squares to put on photographs, they have a little tab and the person said since they had a little tab it made it easy to get the item straight.

Also, got something called "Scrapper's Solution" which "safely removes photos and stickers, etc.. will not bleed inks..." hope I won't have to remove and replace things but if I do there it is.

Thanks for all the welcomes. Diana

I think I would have said, hey wait... glue sticks , I think I'll just use my and educate the students who are getting what they think is educated, quality instruction which they will emilate.

Cavalier's, just double check make sure there's no sulfer in your glue choices. I think you'll enjoy the finished look of the tabbed adhesives better and their's no drying time to deal with.

Best of luck to you, Eager to see your first works! Melissa in Seattle
