Hi- I am Patty in Ct. after the 9-11 disaster in NYC I accessed the Joannes Fabric bullitin board, made some slippers for a project being run by a gal in Fla. since have not been able to reach her with additional items for project sending handmade items to ppl on ships involved in military-- anyone out ther know anything? or any ongoing project I can send these slippers I made to? any info GREATLY appreciated!

I think they had a support-for-US-troops scheme going, and some of the troops appeared to be collecting for Iraqis and Afghanis, too. It's not on the site now, but they should be able to help you if you contact them.
Otherwise, your local churches probably organise something for the homeless or poor in your area.
