(yet) another pattern question (sorry guys =o)

I really really like the pleat like (?) detail on the front of this skirt. I've been looking through a number of patterns (vogue, mccalls, simplicity, etc) for this look, without much luck. Do any of you perhaps know of a pattern that incorporates that front pleat? Or if not a pattern, is this a hard detail to draft myself?

It's easy to draft from a straight skirt pattern but have you looked at Simplicity 9823?

That's an inverted pleat and not difficult to draft yourself.

Use a normal skirt pattern that has the shape you want and expects you to place the centre front on the folded fabric. Place the centre front of the skirt pattern 5" away from the folded edge of the fabric. Stitch down the centre front line to the point where you want the pleat to start, turn the fabric over to face the right side and press the pleat into position. Then proceed as normal.

If this doesn't make sense, I'll try to send you a diagram.

It's called an inverted pleat, and it's a standard detail. You can add it to any skirt by adding in the required amount for the pleat. This particular skirt seems to be on a yoke, and the pleat is open from the bottom of the pockets to the hem.

Adding something like this to any A line skirt pattern isn't difficult. I can send you some instructions if you like. Try it in paper first, to see how much you want in the pleat.

Thanks so much guys! =)

Sally: I totally missed that! That's kind of what I want, except a lower waistband, something on the hips, and a wider pleat...but I may just pick that pattern up, and fiddle around with it!

Trish and Kate: I'm a wee bit of a tool when it comes to verbal (or typed in this case =D)directions. Could I bother you a bit for a visual if and when you have some time? So very much appreciated!

I'll scan the instructions from my pattern drafting book: that should show you how it's done. If Trish does the same with a different one, you'll be sure to see how to do it.

No worries. I've sent that to your email, so please let me know if it doesn't appear. The measures are in cm, not inches, because it's scanned from a European book, but you can make that pleat as deep as you like.
