Hi ladies
Apologies for posting this here, but I'm not on a quilting newsgroup - I just thought Kate and others on here might like the info, or pass it on.
There is a quilt exhibition near Rouen, which ends at the end of October. It's at a place called Chateau de Martainville. It's apparently taken 10 years to arrange, and the quilts are from all over the world, from the 18th century to the present day. I think there are 40 items. It's called 'In search of the hexagon'.
Some of the work looks really spectacular, such as the 'lit de Cuchous', which is a complete set of bed hangings using what looks like Toile de Jouy. There is also a large tablecover, quilted with thousands of hexagons only 1cm wide, other complete sets of bed hangings, works in silk, pictorial modern stuff - you name it. It looks well worth a visit for anyone who can make the trip, at least from the UK.
The phone number for enquiries is +33 2 35 23 44 70. There is also a catalogue, for 20 euros. I saw this event featured (six pages) in Quiltmania magazine, btw, and am happy to buy a copy and send it on to anyone who wants one, but it is in French, of course...
:) Trish
