Hot weather frustration

I've been working a a Lazy Girl Town Purse this week and have had nothing but aggravation. I've made this purse 3 times and this 4th one is driving me crazy. it has to be the 99+ weather we been having. I decided to pull out my stitches one more time, that's 6 times, trying to attach the purse body to the zipper and then I'm going to bury it in the bottom of the heap until the weather cools. In fact I'm burying all the sewing to the bottom of the heap for the rest of the week. The house is comfortable with the air on, but the brain is fried. I've had a hot weather headache since Friday and the sewing isn't helping. Juno

I feel your pain.

The situation you described, we call "late summer". This is why someone once said, "If I owned both Hell and Texas, I would rent out Texas and live in Hell!" It *is* hard to be productive in that kind of weather. The more so, I think if you live in more temperate climes where such heat waves are unusual. It took me 3 years to acclimate to the SE Texas climate, and I learned to cope with heat, humidity, "sun-headaches" and dehydration, as well as the new creepy-crawlies that bite, sting and otherwise irritate. There is a saying: "In Texas, if it doesn't have thorns, it bites!"

More true than not. Ozzies, I think, understand this mindset. They have their own flora and fauna, none of which are wimpy.

Enjoyed your post! Thanks for the chuckle. It brought back memories, as I was *reared* in New Jersey.

Sympathy! We have had an abnormally cool wet spring, summer finally arrived yesterday. Yesterday it was in the high

80s, today it is 93F and climbing. Tomorrow is yard debris pick-up day, so I got out early this AM and mowed the lawns, did some rhodie pruning, and now I'm relaxing with a frosty Arnold Palmer and the newspaper. ;-)

Stay cool,

Right now, I'm working on an Iced Coffee and watching "the Tube." Not accomplishing much but I'm getting less frustrated. I went out early this morning to do some shopping and got to the mall before it was open. I found a Starbucks and had a big Iced Coffee there. When the stores opened I did my shopping and came home relaxed. My big mistake was going to the sewing machine. I hate hot weather and should have known better than to try and sew anything this week. Aww, I hate hot weather! In Winter, all my love handles keep me nice and warm so I save a fortune in warm coats and other clothing. Unfortunately, they do the same in Summer. But see, Beverly knows best: sit back and relax! ;-> But seriously: I failed my first driving test in hot weather despite a AC in the car because the ozone level made me dizzy and unconcentrated. Might be the same in your case.

I, on the other hand, have to prepare a combined birthday party for DD and DH (his is July 9., hers July 10.) and we'll have the family over on Saturday (for 'Kaffee' and BBQ). Moreover, I'll try to sew a blue dress with flowers on and I'm not sure how or when, because DD sees everything. Her little eyes spied the fabric but I told her it's for patchwork. Currently I'm brooding over the pattern Kate sent back with the little-pink-roses patterend 'wedding dress' (DD's words) and the fabric ramnants. I think I've got all I need in the house, Germany's out of the Cup (OK, they'll play for third place but we all know that the world only remember the winner, but that's another story), and in the evening, the veranda is quite bearable. Your report makes me cringe a little. Please, give me a little kick in the butt to just get me started.

BTW, I got one of those iced coffees from Starbucks for DM when we were in town last, and had a sip (no, I'd better not return to coffee, migraine's better without) and I really liked it. Much better than German Iced Coffee: That'd be coffee with milk or without, sweetend or not, with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, perhaps even whipped cream. Too much for hot weather, but who said Germans were adapted to hot weather?

Anyway, sit back, relax and enjoy the fact that you needn't work in hot weather, that you just chose to. DH is out in the blazing heat all day, dragging heavy scaffolding parts up and down buildings. Aaahhh, isn't old age a bliss? Nah, don't bother to answer that. ;->>

I have an espresso machine, and make my own mochas most of the year. In this weather I make my own iced mocha: 2 heaping tsp. instant coffee, 1 large scoop cocoa mix, enough water from my Instant Hot Water Dispenser to dissolve, blend with my stick blender, add 1/2 cup chilled skim milk, several ice cubes and blend again until slushy. Ahhhh, perfection. And cheap!

Tackle it in the (cooler?) evenings? Or just wait a month or two... ;-}
