i finally got a treadle!

hi everyone... have been lurking about for awhile--the kids are keeping me so busy this summer ....

but, on friday my dad called from an estate auction...a GORGEOUS singer red eye in cabinet! it works!! he ended spending $90 on it..and delivered it to me yesterday....

its a gorgeous baby. shows wear, but the decals are close to complete. the cabinet is in pretty good shape. all in all, it just needs a good cleaning. opened up one of the drawers to find a whole boatload of attachments! no idea of what they are...but isnt that half the fun?

My dh had no idea it was coming--he came home from reserve duty on saturday, finding himself moving it from my dad's truck to our living room. his first comment "why didnt i know about this?" quickly became "its gorgeous!!!"

cant wait to get it all going.....

WOOHOO!!! congrats on your new addition....now, you just need to see if there is anything that should be replaced.

We are refinishing ours, and all it should need is a new belt.

What fun!! Congrats. :)

If you need help identifying the accessory feet, let me know. I can email you pictures of mine for my treadle and let you know what they are.

Most of the time, you will find a name for them stamped into the metal. The hemming feet will have sizes on them to denote the depth of hem it will make.

I inherited my grandmother's White treadle. Love it. In the drawers, she had a complete set of the attachment feet for the White, and (can you believe this one!) a nearly complete set of Singer feet. (which are duplicates of the White feet, and won't fit on the White either so I have no idea why she had them!!! lol)

Just wait till you get it going. There is something so very soothing about the sound of a treadle. Oh, and try putting one foot at the top of the pedal and one foot at the bottom. That's what I had to do at first to keep a smooth rhythm. :)

I remember watching my grandmother using hers before she got an electric one, and that's how she always did it. Left foot forward, right foot back, and press down alternately with left toe and right heel.

My 9 year old DS can get that rhythm going, but I can't. Makes it real hard to gat that tension right.

I missed the original post, but I wonder if using one of those music timing thingies would help with getting that rhytm going? You know, the music students use to keep on beat. I think it's called a metronome.
