I worry you're going to be disappointed, the forecasts I have seen indicate another big nasty storm is on the way soon. Stock up on essentials and stay warm!

Today is an absolutely gorgeous day. The sun is shining, the temp on my deck is 40F and we got out for a few hours. What more can you ask of the world. We probably will have more yuck Saturday, but I'm enjoying today and that's what counts to me. Juno

Not to rub it in, but here in the Pacific NW, my daffodils are jumping out of the (soggy) ground! ;->

I've had the laser treatment in one eye, and will eventually have it in the other, for the membrane that has formed behind the lens -- about half of all cataract patients get these, so it's considered a "side effect."

I just had a checkup, got new glasses, and was a bit surprised that Medicare picked up a little of the bill. I went all out -- got Silhouette frames, which are almost no frame at all -- just temple pieces and a bridge over the nose, and rimless lenses with the no-line bifocal -- Shamir Autograph lenses with Transitions -- hideously expensive, but I love 'em. Between Medicare and my State insurance, I paid roughly half the cost.

The downside is that I had to dig out my makeup kit, so I can put a little on my eyes now. ;-)

I think we've all been faced with that, those who have furry members of our families. It's so hard, but at the same time, I often wish that the same kindness could be done for those of us who reach a similar point. There is no greater love.

I agree, it's the pits to have to start making up one's eyes again after many years of hiding behind bottle-bottom specs. :-}

I do love the ultra-thin plastic lenses I am now able to use. And the almost-not-there frames!

I have never tried Transitions, do they actually change very quickly when light conditions change? Right now, I have prescription sunglasses, I would love to not have to constantly be changing back and forth between glasses.

It's fairly quick, but not instant. I've been getting them for some years now as I really hate switching glasses as I go in and out -- it's usually very sunny and bright here. I like the Transitions, I choose dark grey rather than brown as it doesn't distort color so much. It is sort of funny to come in from the back yard and wonder if I need to turn on some lights, but a few minutes later, it's so much lighter! ;-)

That was my experience when I tried some several years ago. I put a pair on the windowsill and timed them. It took several minutes (15?) to get to the darkest shade. That's too long for safety when driving.

I also chose grey for my RX sunglasses for much the same reason. My eyes are quite sensitive to bright light. I may try Transitions, I can always put some Costco clipons over the top if they don't get dark enough.

Thanks for the info.

There's a "break-in" period, depending on how often they need to go through the change when they're new. They get quicker. Seems odd in a way, that something like that has to "exercise" or "build muscle" to get the job done, but I was warned when I first got glasses with Transitions. The suggestion was to leave them in a sunny spot for a while at first.

If I has daffodils to bloom, they'd be under about 2 feet of snow right now. If I had daffodils to bloom, we might see them the end of April, or maybe the beginning of May. Juno

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that; it's so hard to lose a beloved pet. I know what you mean; I still think sometimes Sparrow is still there and for a second I wonder how well he gets along with the new cats, but then it's all back in my memory. And good you ended it for her in a decent manner and stayed with her. That's what we owe them. A big hug for you and your family!

You know, a snowstorm or a tropical cyclone might be dangerous, but at least it is something. After our snow disaster had melted away, we've had just plain boring wintery weather, hardly sunshine, a bit of frost, mostly rain, some high winds but nothing dangerous... And the winter just drags on and on, with nothing interesting going on. OK, the old curse, yes, I remember: May you live in interesting times! Well then, all of you in interesting weather, I wish you luck and keep your heads down and your feet dry.

Thank you, Beverly for this note; I feel much better about the situation now after reading of your experiences.

The forecasters here say next week, we are in for more of the same weather. We are some 70-miles inland, so got very little ice on the roadways and no snow in this area, it has been extremely dry though. The moisture moved in from the Gulf and did cause problems east of downtown Houston. I know it is still below freezing outside today, but we're supposed to get into the 50s tomorrow, which will be nice. Did I ever mention I dislike cold weather?

One of my DS's said she's had the laser treatment in her right eye and needs to go in soon for the left one. I told her, that's something else to look forward to in my 80s.

I bought titanium frames a few years ago in the same style as my DGD's. I promised her we'd wear matching glasses as long as she needs them; she is

12 and very sensitive about them, although she had to start wearing them when she was only 2-YO.
