There is one thing I think is important to stress. Don't buy patterns by your ready to wear size. They go by different standards. Check and compare the size measurements shown on the back of the pattern with your own and go by them. Then consider how much room for wearing ease. IIRC Kate's website has info on this.

Oh my, I never knew dressmakers tape was that width! I had to add a seam allowance and was having such a hard time marking it every few inches then moving the tape down. Thanks for the tip!
I usually make a pencil mark on the machine for the seam allowance, then I can just keep the fabric lined up with the pencil mark. Just make sure to measure from the needle, and that you don't move the needle around. :)

Oh I love that phrase. But it isn't how RTW usually does it, which makes no sence to me. Except that it is usually a richer color when run with the nap going up, but I hate that feel.
