i have a freind who is refinishing a carved bowl. the wood is gum tupelo [not sure of the spelling ] i have not seen it yet but he says it is quite soft. he wants a food safe finnish the will not crack and peel if damaged. any suggestions?

- Behlen's Salad Bowl Finish--a brush-on finish that's hard and food-safe when dry.
- Clapham's Salad Bowl Finish--a beeswax / mineral oil finish that's safe from the get-go. Needs to be renewed from time to time. My favorite.
- Plain beeswax or plain mineral oil or plain walnut oil. Or any combination of the three. My second choice.
There are others.
