finnish question

i have a freind who is refinishing a carved bowl. the wood is gum tupelo [not sure of the spelling ] i have not seen it yet but he says it is quite soft. he wants a food safe finnish the will not crack and peel if damaged. any suggestions?

  1. Behlen's Salad Bowl Finish--a brush-on finish that's hard and food-safe when dry.
  2. Clapham's Salad Bowl Finish--a beeswax / mineral oil finish that's safe from the get-go. Needs to be renewed from time to time. My favorite.
  3. Plain beeswax or plain mineral oil or plain walnut oil. Or any combination of the three. My second choice.

There are others.
