Help Please

Oct 22, 2003 3 Replies

I am trying my hand at woodturning for the first time so I suffer from considerable ignorance. I have bought a second hand lathe but cannot find any info on the net - My lathe is called Woodmen kl600 - made in Sweden by SP Maskinser. It has three speeds by adjusting the pulley. It certainly appears well made - does anyone know of this make and if so any opinions - is there a manual.

I have a face plate and I tried to turn some bowls to see how I got on and would now like to turn a spindle of sorts but do not have the bit to hold the spindle - i.e. when you take the face plate off their is only the thread to attach anything to hold the wood. What should I be looking for and can anyone recommend web sites that might help.

Many, many apologies for my ignorance

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Keith

Well, welcome to an expensive addiction! What you need is a spur center and a live center. Check these websites and start getting their catalogs:

ought to keep you busy for awhile! Regards, Lewis

Hi Keith As you are in the UK that list may not be of too much use. I can suggest you take a look in any of the UK turners magazines for info on UK suppliers, Axminster and Craft Supplies spring to mind but there are others. If you are in the midlands I can give you more local info if you want to email me. Dave Lawson
