Modelling woodturing

If anyone is interested in doing 3d models of woodturnings I figured out how to do it with Google's free Sketchup software.

In AutoCAD, you may draw a complex 2D line shape and convert it into a stepped 360 degree 3D poly using the Lathe command - Go figure...

Adobe Illustrator has a 3D Revolve command too; I do my basic profiles using Bezier curves and then revolve them if someone else wants to see what it'll look like. Not that Illustrator is cheap or intuitive, unless you use it for other things; but it's what I happen to have, and it does a great job!
