Hi all,
I am trying to turn some Christmas ornaments and want to get a nice round ball. I do fine on the tail end of the piece but the other end the cut is too steep and without the nice arch. Any ideas to get better control on the head end.
I am right handed.

Yeah, just practice. There's no substitute.
With that said, here's some other pointers...
- Turn left-handed when you get to that problem area nearest the chuck.
- Cut out a half-circle (or whatever profile you're shooting for) the same size as you're turning in a stiff piece of cardboard/plywood/etc. Use that cutout as a guide by stopping the lathe and putting that template over your work. Stop when you get your wood profile the same as your template.

Take a look at this link and be sure to use the "cup drive" to clean up out of round areas.
