Errors in Vogue Stitchionary

After reading Aaron's post I am emboldened to post about errors in this lovely big book (vol. 1, knit and purl stitches.) So far I've found one - pattern no. 7, Sugar Cubes. Picture shows a mostly stockinette block with little garter stitch squares here and there. Directions: Row 1 and 5: Knit Rows 2, 4, 6, 8: K the knit stitches and P the P stitches etc. I knit it exactly as written (I don't like to put the whole pattern because it's copyrighted of course) and what I got was a bunch of garter stitch. I think the pattern should have said "Purl the knit stitches and Knit the purl stitches."

I agree, I think there's an error. If Row 1 is knit and Row 2 is purled, you will get stockinette. If Row 2 is knitted (because row 1 was), then you'll get garter stitch for the background, and you said the background was supposed to be stockinette.

It seems obvious that Row 3 must have the actual pattern, but even with it, the instruction to knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches on the next row would give you something like a shadow-knitting garter stitch/reverse garter stitch instead of stockinette/reverse stockinette..

To get little garter stitch squares set into stockinette, I would expect something like:

Odd-numbered rows are the front of the fabric. multiple of 9 + 6 Row 1: knit Row 2: purl 6, knit 3, repeat, ending with p6 Row 3: knit Row 4: repeat row 2 Row 5: knit Row 6: repeat row 2 Row 7: knit Row 8: purl

_If_ I have that right, it ought to produce little 3-stitch areas of garter stitch separated by horizontally 6-stitch areas of stockinette, and separated vertically by a row or two of plain stockinette.
