heads up all modular knitters

Today I received my brand new book on Modular knitting from Iris Schreier. It is a lovely book full with great ideas. I have down loaded all Iris lessons you can subscribe to and was waiting for her book to come out. It is worth buying. I bought mine through Amazon.ca, with an order from a friend so we did not have to pay any shipping costs. The price came to $18 Can. My October 6x6 are most likely be done in Iris' techniques, at least I will give it a wirl. It is easier to do than lace knitting....LOL

What is Modular knitting Els? Is it just a name for the book or some certain style of knitting? I have MANY knitting, crochet and various craft books and magazines and I haven't heard of that. I find it interesting. Fairwinner

Here is the website, where some of us have gone to and subscribed to Irene's method of knitting with short rows. Once a month or with regular intervals, she will mail you a lesson on her method of knitting. It means that you do not have to cut your thread to go around corners or knit shapes. I find it very interesting Go have a look, you may get hooked on this way of knitting as well

Let us know what you think

Hi Els,

Do you know of any recently-published books on modular crochet?

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

I did a quick google search and didn't find any books on modular crocheting, just articles that really didn't help much.

I just went to the site and I think I might like to try that. I liked some of the patterns that were there. I really like tank tops, and I LOVED that set that was shown. So , yes I signed up!! I will let you know how it goes! I have enough yarn here to start my own shop, so that won't be an issue finding one to start with!! Thank you, Els Fairwinner

Hello Mirjam!!! I have never thought of that! I felt like such an idiot when I did. It had never occurred to me!!! Thank you! I did just get my first email from them this afternoon. It is lesson number 1. So when I have some time here I will give that method a try. By the way, what is your favorite craft to do? I see that you do so many diffrent things, I just wondered if you have a favorite, or you 'go with the flow' with whatever mood hits you. That is what I do. I would love to try spinning and weaving. I don't know anyone around here who does that. Not even at any of the craft shows and fairs. It is mostly painting and photography around here. I hope you have a wonderful day!!! Fairwinner

Thank you, Els, for the web site. I signed up for their tutorials early this morning and got the first one today. I think I may give me an idea for a program for our Fiber Arts Guild next year.

They are kind of fun, but I have stopped making all the ones she send to me. I do hope that a group in our guild will sit start doing them all, you do get some support when you get stuck. The book is great and I will start on one of the scarves, with a variagated yarn.

I found this one at Barnes and Noble, though it was published in 1978.

Els I have ordered the book from Amazon. Do you think I can learn from that or do you think I need to download the lessons too?

I didn't think the lessons were all that great mostly because there were no illustrations to go with the instructions. I decided to quit them and wait for the book which I assume will include illustrations. But I don't want to discourage anyone else from trying the lessons. At least, they give you an idea of what the technique is about.

Hello Ophelia,

No you do not need to download the lessons, as far as I have been reading the book, most if not all the lessons are in the book. Great that you are getting the book and Jan has asked for it from the library, I have two clever knitters I can ask questions from.....LOL

How is your knee. I can sympatize with you, even though it is just a small knee problem I have right now. When I went walking with my brother two days ago. I was broadsided by a squat Heinz 57 Dog. Amazing how solid this dog was. I did not fall, but my knee is sore. I have gone to my first yoga classes in a long time, yesterday, and must say that did help a bit, plus ice packs. Never stand still when dogs are playing and running around you. I am told to keep on walking, that will stop a dog from running into you. LOL

Jan the illustrations were often posted on her website. However they certainly are all in the book, plus many lovely items to make as well. I do not have a scanner at the moment, otherwise I could scan you the pictures going with the lessons.
