Vest

This was not finished in February, but now it is! It's a birthday present to my niece, an entrelac vest made in cotton . I used one ball solid color and one ball varigated. after weaving all these ends(LOL) I think the "bug" has gone for now.

I have taken up Modular Knitting;remember the tutorials at

?Els told us nearly a year ago, and some of usordered the lessons. And it was thrilling! Now I have got the "dishcloth bug" while I'm waiting for Iris Schreier's Book "Modular Knits", the bookseller told me I had to wait 2-4 weeks(now it is nearly 3 weeks ;) I got the pattern at the Yahoo group

is a newsgroup made to get help and inspiration to modular knitting.here is my first:

had no more nice varigated cotton, so the next had to be in solid coloures. Therefore I made some patterns in the triangles to make it a bit more interesting.

seize is so small that I will call it a washing cloth rather than a kitchen dishcloth, but it is easy to make them larger. Aud ;-)

Aud,

I really love all your work. You are a very good knitter. The vest is really nice. That pattern is very interesting and I am sure it will be loved.

My favorites are the felted slippers with the embroidery, the autumn scarf, and especially the colorful sweater. How long did it take you to knit the sweater? Very nice.

It's nice to see someone else giving Iris Schreier's innovative technique a try. I started knitting a scarf using the Zigzag pattern in her book last week. When I was working on the 3rd step, I ran into a problem. My searching didn't locate any book errata so I sent her an email. Very shortly, she replied with

which containsupdates to several of the patterns. That solved my problem and the scarf isprogressing well with no more problems. I'm using the variegated yarn Ireceived from Shelagh and loved the colors at first sight and even more sowith the pattern I'm using.

If you get problems you cannot solve, then that newsgroup will help you! Because many people work on same projects, there is always an answer. Another thing I liked, was to see what people have done. There is lots of photos.

Good luck with the scarf! Hope to see it when ready! I have got a variegated yarn from Opal, Hagebutte.(Bought on a Norwegian online shop)

formatting link
think the yarn had been better if "the repeats" had been a bit longer, but we'll see! People at the newsgroup says that the models are most beautiful with art yarns, some have tried BOTH artyarns AND others. May be it is so. May be it is p.r. LOL! I see that the art yarns are beautiful, but for me they will be too expensive to import!

Hi, Aud,

For some reason, when I click the link to see the vest, I'm told that I'm not authorized to see the page. There's no problem with the links for the dishcloths... and the only thing I can notice that might be the problem is that the vest link is apparently directly to the image rather than going through the path of "community.webshots.etc...."

Love the dishcloths and would really love to see the vest. Could ya maybe post the link another way? Or if I'm doing something wrong ('cause others have apparently had no problem), could ya lemme know what I might do?

Thanks, Eve :o)

I have experienced that sometimes with other's photos! Try to paste the URL to the adressline, instead of clicking the link! It sometimes works! Aud ;-)

Thank you, Diane! I cannot remember how long the jacked took, but I think about 2 months. But last year's first months were "un-norrmal", because i had to go to hospital twice. But it certainly depends of how much time you can spend on knitting. I think the planning took much time, because I made, and constructed the pattern myself. It is a facinating process, but it takes time! Aud ;-)

Aud as always lovely work great colours. Did you have problems with the modual knitting. When I did the knitting for the squares exchange at the end of last year, I did a fair amound of ripping out. Once you get the idea it goes better. I have had the book for a while now. I would offer you to get books for you, if they are published in North America, however since I did not hear from you as yet if the kumihimo braid arrived, that may be a bad idea. It is more than two weeks ago, that I mailed it out by airmail. It should have arrived a long time ago. Lets hope it is not lost, or stolen

Have a great weekend, with a good soccer game, maybe a boat ride, some good fishing and a glass of wine and good music at the end of it all

Jan and Aud thanks for bringing up knitting the moduar knitting Technique by Iris Schreier. I have gone and printed out the errata you mentioned and will put it in with the book. It will also get me back to knitting some more of her great patterns.

Jan, Thanks for the link for the corrections. I made the Patchwork eyeglass case and had to alter the pattern to get it to work out - now I know I wasn't going nuts! I've just posted the picture of it. It's my first attempt at this technique, and I was quite pleased with the result.

I love the entrelac vest and the modular dishcloths. I did try entrelac once and didn't enjoy all the picking up of stitches. This modular knitting is much better in that respect, imho.

Hi Sue,

Oh, that is very pretty, and while there I looked at the other projects you posted. My favorite, the Noro Silk Garden Sweater as I love the colors and how they worked out.

Hugs,

Hi Eve,

I've had the same problem as you and did what Aud and Jan said to do, I copied and pasted it, then it worked fine.

Hugs,

I really like the vest!! I have a project waiting that calls for entrelac knitting - and I am eager to get to it. (I need to finish a couple of WIPs first - including DH's vest as he sees it sitting there when I turn to something else and wonders when I will get back to it.) I really liked the combination of the solid and varigated cotton in the vest. Judy

If I ever get around to signing up for a Yahoo ID, I will look at the MD newsgroup. There won't be any pictures of my scarf unless a digital camera magically appears on my doorstep. :-) Here's the yarn I'm using -

. Scroll down to see theAutumn Print color. The pattern is P57 on here -

.Your Hagebutte yarn is very colorful. I can't see how long the repeats arebut I think short repeats are better for her designs. What are you going tomake with it? I haven't seen the prices on the Artyarns but I suspect theyare too pricey for me. Iris describes how to knit backwards in her book. I tried it but it didn't work well for me. Have you been knitting backwards on the entrelac?
