Thirty-four hours and counting...

Until this thing comes off my arm on Monday.

Then I can catch up on two weeks of SCRATCHING!!! And maybe knit a little if I'm lucky.

Poor girl! I know exactly what you mean. I had a full leg cast on in Aug/Sept and as if that wasn't itchy enough, the hair on my leg grew back, arghhhhh. I actually brought a razor and lotion along with me to the doctors office the day they took that cast off! That cast was so irritating I remember thinking I would give my eye teeth to just be able to bend my leg for 5 minutes! arghhhhhh Marie and the cats-hoping everything is fine and you'll be able to do some knitting...

Do try a large helping of moisturiser before you scratch, that will only make the itching worse. And if you have to do something rub don't scratch. Don't ask me how I know this, it's a very long story!! Love & higs Christine

When I worked for an orthopaedic many moons ago, you wouldn't believe what we'd find inside casts whe we removed them! Straws, sticks, skewers, pencils, etc, that people used to itch themselves! They would get them in and couldn't get them out!

You can try a blow-dryer pointed inside the cast on low heat. That's what they told DD last summer when she had on her arm cast. Helps a little.

Bring a nicely scented soap and cream with you to doctors office. Maybe even a nice washcloth.

Best of luck,

Diane

Hope everything goes well and remember take it easy once the cast is off. I guess talking from experience as knitting does take a while to get back to after having a cast on.

I am heading back to the surgeon Monday to see what he says about the numbness that I have in part of my thumb.

Take care Darlene in Toronto

POOOOR Wooly!

Hope that KNOWING you CAN scratch, will help you !LOL! And... knowing that you also can do a bit knitting will certainly help!

Did you have bandage or plaster? ...I just wondered: if you had plaster...I'm sure you have tried one of your longest, thinnest needles to scratch "under"it? ;-)))

It does - I just check the clock and tell myself it won't be much longer. Less than 24hr to go now!

I have breathable plastic sealant over my incisions, then a cotton lint sleeve, then a plaster wristlet about 6" long that covers most of my hand and my thumb to above the last knuckle, and an ACE elastic srap to keep it all in place, I guess. I have *not* tried to scratch under it except in areas where I know for certain there's no chance I'll snag a suture. So I've been scratching my palm and the back of my hand, and not much else.

The nails on my left hand have turned into claws. I usually trim my nails weekly but haven't bothered since surgery. My right hand's nails are pretty damned nasty and will need an hour or more of attention to be presentable again :)

21.5 hours...
