Late Sunday AM, coffee, rcty, etc

Yes, that's what I read online when looking for help with the problem!

They are supposed to hate the strong smelling food items like cinnamon, coffee, mint, and citrus.

Well, where I found it online, they didn't say that, LOL.

OK, so the people online had that wrong, too.

Several people said that it killed ants on contact and since it's a non-toxic remedy to keep bugs off your garden, I thought I'd give it a try, since I'm sensitive to pesticides.

AMDRO, huh? I think I saw this at the garden shop. Non-toxic to mammals, but kills the colony? Sounds like what I need. I saw another product called Green Light, but I remember from my youth it was really nasty stuff.

Hi, Jenny,

I really hate ants, too. We have fire ants all over the south and they are the most aggressive and mean little things you can find. I also hate poison, so either I make my husband dust the mounds (which really only makes them move 10 feet over. You can chase them out of your yard, but it's a battle with your surrounding neighbors, who are also chasing them), or if I'm feeling particularly hateful, I'll boil several quarts of water and cook the devils in their mounds. This is obviously a localized solution, but it makes me feel better, after one or ten of those little meanies have chewed up my leg!

One word: AMDRO

My $10 box is 3/4 full and I haven't had any fireants in my yard since I sprinkled in March. No collateral damage, either: I've got Plain Black Ant hills in the yard for the first time in five years - fireants will consume black ants, so I view the return of black ants as a good sign. Maybe my neighborhood is winning the battle...

Reply to the list as I do not publish an email address to USENET. This practice has cut my spam by more than 95%. Of course, I did have to abandon a perfectly good email account...

Alright Wooly,

I'll pass it on to DH (aka Poison Handler) cuz I won't touch the stuff. I'll let you know how it works.

Sorry if I was not clear on the borax acid. You do not use the stuff used for washing, but the pure borax from the druggist. Also if ants do have soft bodies the softness is protected by a skeleton that they wear on the outside of their bodies. The diatmomacieous earth with the very sharp edges will damage the skeleton and kill the ant, but the very main thing is that ants groom and communicate by touching and they will pass the Borax as well as the diatmomaceous earth on in this manner. That is why it takes patience and redoing. My ants that came in the house are definitely gone. We had a bad wind and rain storm recently, so I will sprinkle the borax again along the edge of the house on our deck, now that it has been washed away. You need just little bits and also keep it away from kids and pets.

Yes you are right Hesira, the ants just pack up and move to greener pastures. I have seen them do that. I must say watching an ant hill is an amazing thing. If we all worked that hard in this world we would have a perfect place.....LOL
