moebious as lovely as ever

You start with the left hand needle sort of coiled toward the right needle and the CO begins behind it. As you put on stitches you work your way around the cord and you come back to the left tip again. Push your sts to the tip, then just start knitting in the first one, then then second one.

I don`t know ? i can`t see that `cord ` you speak about I am sorry i read your instruction here and still don`t get it if you DIP you needle over the [plastic Needl`s cord? i assume] how do your stitches STAY ,,,,once the cord mooves further ,,, Turned stiches like you describe don`t boother me at all ,, I knit/cast on my stitches make a loop , put right needle through loop, k a st, don`t pull loop of left side needle , but slip new st on left needle , leave right needle in this st and k next stiches , again slip the new st on left needle, k nexr st ,,, etc ,, this enables you to knit on an endless number of stiches ,,, and provide you with a Neat under loop where you can pick your `underside ` st. yesternight i tried again the best way to loosen up the first round and found out that the best way was to use needle 1 or 1.5 times bigger size that the intended knitting needle once you cast knit on all your st lay your work straight ,put a marker pick up first st turn over and start the knitting the underst with a smaler sized [ in circumfference not in lengh ] circular, until you meet with marker again you will see that you AUTOMATICLY knit into the `upper ` stitches and just go on as much as you want ,, mirjam

I liked at this cord cast on and have a question Where are the stitiches , ? how does she stop them from opening ...what happens with the cord after she wrapped it ? I will have to try and see how it works for me ,,, mirjam

The cord of the circular needle is coiled up a little so the ends overlap. You use the right needle tip and let the left one dangle whily you `dip' the needle in front and behind, picking up yarn. In the video I linked to, the cord is the bluish/purple thing.

Yes, I've done something similar, but it's tight and the caston is more noticeable. This way is like a provisional caston, (the one shown here toward the bottom of the page -

except you use the cable of the circular needle instead of another strand of yarn. It's also similar to the Turkish or figure 8 castons.> yesternight i tried again the best way to loosen up the first round> and found out that the best way was to use needle 1 or 1.5 times> bigger size that the intended knitting needle> once you cast knit on all your st lay your work straight ,put a> marker pick up first st turn over and start the knitting the underst> with a smaler sized [ in circumfference not in lengh ] circular, until> you meet with marker again you will see that you AUTOMATICLY knit into> the `upper ` stitches and just go on as much as you want ,,> mirjam

That would work well for your method. The one I describe above is loose but not too loose.

Because the needle is coiled up, the stitches don't come off. You start with a slip knot that becomes your first stitch. Then after adding the Caston stitches you're back at that first one and start knitting with it. I wish I could show you all better how it works.

Do you mean the cast on stitche? Hold the yarn in your left hand, dip the right needle in front of the cord, scoop it around the tip, then dip the needle to the back of the cord and scoop up the yarn again. Then to the front, to the back, all the way across.

Mirjam,

I made a small one for a 5 year old, she loved it. I did the basket weave. It called for "knit every row" and I wanted to do something different. I did the basket weave pattern out of my head, it turned out nice.

Now I have the idea of the moebius and will not worry about mak> >>> >>>> I suggest you just start one and go for it .. I have just finished my first

That's what I did on the first couple I made - k6, p6 for 6 rounds, then reverse - p6, k6 for 6. Since I was using Lion's Homespun anyway, that worked the best.

Sue and All after trying this cast on a cord , i think i stick to my `older` way which works so neatly for me ..... as i feel we all can do what fits us ,,, i will go on exploring new patterns for use on the moebious , but i feel better knitting on my stitiches .. mirjam

That's fine. We all do what works best for us, and that's usually what we're familiar with.

I know...funny trying to work it out via text isn't it? I can do the cast on itself, that's easy enough, I end up with a zig zag thread woven around both needle and cord bit, so the cord is trapped now up against the needle...so do I knit back from the original needle point, or do I go to the back or where I started the zig zag co to knit along the first round...confusia he say...lol

The 2nd needle tip with the slip knot should have come around again as you cast on. Knit the slip knot then each zig or zag as you come to them.

O dear. Here's how you start - put the slip knot on the left needle and slide it back down on the cord a couple inches. Lay the circ down on the table in a circle with the two tips pointing at each other. Then move the left tip so it overlaps the right one and keep going a bit past the right tip so it's now a loose coil. Pick up the right needle with the cord from the left side and let the other tip dangle. Now begin the tip picking up stitches, zigging and zagging the yarn around the cord. The coil will fill up and you'll come around again to that other tip and your slip knot and start working the first round.

Yes Sue I did 5 wide by 7 rows, it looked better than seed stitch.

Now I could crochet one with out a pattern. Once you do one it is very simple.

Thanks for the post. Dennis
