Moebious hat ,,instructions

I made the moebious hat and it is ok ,,, Measure head circumference at widest part = around you head where edge of hat will be ,,,,, Cast on enough treble {UK] = dc [USA} , and when you have enough lay it on a flat surface , turn the edge and cast on stiches on the bottom of the cast ons. now crochet till you have enough width = this you measure by putting it on your head and see if the `folded` parts close in enough to cover your head ,,,,, finnish with some nice stich ,, you might add beads or any other nicety ,,,,, it gives a bit the impression of a scarve bound over your head ,, i made this first one as a present for a friend ,,, it is very warm .... now i want to figure out if i can knit such a hat as well ... mirjam

I'm sure you could, it would just be much smaller around than a scarf.

SUE ,,, i am sorry if this post wasn`t clear enough ,, this was a Moebious HAT ,, and i specificly said it`s circumference matched the head circumference ,,,,, while a regular Moebious shawl is about 60 inches in circumfernce .... I crocheted this hat , now i want to try same idea [ and measurements in knitting . mirjam

Scarves for Christmas gifts - co-workers and DILs. And I got side tracked by the Clapotis scarf (see knitty.com - either fall or winter

04) and am making one for myself. I think I'll be able to get them all done....

We're getting snow tomorrow, then very cold for our Thanksgiving holiday with a little more snow. At least we only have an hour's drive or so.

Look here

You can vary the number of increase rows to make it narrower or wider, for a scarf, a wrap or a stole. They look very pretty in variegated yarn.> We have no Christmas presents only Hanuka ,,,, Only to my [young grown> up ] children , but i ask them what they would like , not always> knitted stuff, and anyway since i do stuff all year , and give> presents as i finnish them , or buy them , i find this a better system > for us,,,,,> mirjam

I just started up knitting again earlier this year, so it's my first time to give the away as gifts.

Me too!

I'm knitting it mono color to see how it turns out. Reading various forums and lists about it gave me the idea to go with Caron's Simply Soft and I wanted an excuse to knit something with that because it feels sooooo soft. I'm doing Plum wine (kind of a dark rose) for myself, and will be doing Dark Sage and Country Blue for the girls. The pattern is pretty cool the way it knits up, and you get to drop stitches on purpose! It's very versatile in that you can make it just about any width or length you want; I saw a picture of a shrug someone had made (do a rectangle and seam two sides together for a few inches). I've also thought of a couple variations with thicker yarn and needles I may want to try. Knitty's forum has an informational post with links to all kinds of pictures too. ;)

Sounds great! Will you be putting up pictures when you're finished?

Hi Sue,

That is so pretty, wish I could still knit. I've used the simply soft and found it slips on the needles no matter what kind you use.

I don't have a site, though I could put them up on yahoo photos. The way it's looking, I've got a lot of this skein left to go and it's getting way long. I think I might have a `do over' a little wider with smaller needles. These are driving me crazy, the tips are more blunt than pointed and slick so the yarn slips around on them a lot. It curls up a lot when you drop the stitches, and lengthens some too. But it goes fast and now I'll know how to make it `right' for the girls.

Ahhh. Well the finish on these is pretty slippy even with other yarn, and I tried out the yarn on the smaller ones to compare gauge, and it's not as bad, so I'm going to go with them. Although the Plum Wine seems to have more of a sheen than the blue and that might make a difference too.

I love the yahoo photo sites! I'm not sure if they have a limit on how many pictures or mbs you can put on there or not, but it's really neat... and free!! :o)
