OT: Anyone watching Dancing with the Stars?

If so, what are your thoughts on the abilities of the current crop?

I think I was spoiled by Mario Lopez on the last competition. I went back and watched a couple of his dances on Youtube, and was reminded of how good he was.

I'm enjoying Leila Ali, Joey Fatone and Apolo Ohno.

My husband likes it -- I can knit in front of it but am not fascinated.

Apolo is a hometown boy -- they usually say Seattle but he was really raised in our nearby city - started on roller skates but moved to speed skating. He is a cutie with charisma - should do well in something else in entertainment after Olympics are through for him.

I'm not fascinated this time either. I guess I was spoiled by Mario Lopez' dancing abilities, and I really enjoyed Drew Lachey the season before. I was totally put-off by some of the sporting guys who couldn't really dance, like Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith and this time out - Clyde what's-his-name. Unfortunately people are voting it as a popularity contest, not a dancing ability contest. Oh well, I guess that's to be expected.

Apolo does have some dancing ability, and I agree with you - he is a cutie, and seems to have a nice personality and manners. His partner, Julianne Hough is a cutie too.

I wasn't sorry to see the beauty queen voted off (the Barbi & Ken couple)..... her parter's white teeth were blinding (grin)

I like Leila Ali, Joey Fatone, Apolo Ohno, and Ian & Cheryl. Mario was great last season and will be very hard to beat IMHO.

I'm a sports nut and I was fascinated by Emmitt - I had never watched the show before when I read how well he was doing. Currently, I am interested in Laila Ali - she certainly is her Father's daughter in many ways. Athletes do well on this show because they are usually in shape due to their training. I wish that Clyde had a taller partner - someone should have taken note of that.

What I really like about this show is that it is LIVE - so rare these days.

nodnodnod, me TOO, Joan, didja see my reply (the first one in the thread!) TO Shelagh? I said that the Emmitt Smith episodes/season was the best ever! Noreen Here, I'll copy and paste it: Shillelagh spun a FINE 'yarn':

I wish also that they would match their partners better. I wonder if they draw for partners or how they chose? The women that are taller than their partner look gawky no matter how well they dance, etc. Clyde can't really let loose with a woman that is so much shorter than he is IMHO. Maybe he's just used to adjusting his gait to shorter folks. As for Billy Ray, he is painful to watch.
