OT UK Elections

I hope everyone has voted today in the UK. I'm staying up all night to watch the results as they come in with a glass or two of cider. :o)

They're amazing. And to see all the results come in on the television is great to see. I watched the USA elections on the BBC too. Let's hope I stay awake for all of them this time!

Well, the results start coming in at 11pm here in England, so I can't fault you. It's going to be a long night. I've given myself the day off work tomorrow, although I'm sure I'll get a good part of my jumper knitted in front of the television tonight :o)

Thats's good to know :o)

I won't be staying awake as I'm working tomorrow, but I'll put the news on first thing before I go out in the morning! It looks as if it will be an interesting night.

Too late for me Sarah, I have to get up for work early tomorrow, otherwise I might love Christine

Yep, I voted. I don't know how late I'll stay up, at least for the first few results.

OK: if Blair is in again, does it warrant a smile, or congratulations....Sarah is that the man you want to be back in. Just wondering

I'm not keen on him myself, but it looks like we have him again for a while. It was very interesting seeing the votes coming in. There were lots of different theories about what would happen in the future. Let's hope people can be nice to each other again. I found the allegations of death threats in one constiuency to be very worrying. :o(

Did you stay up long enough to see The Monster Raving Loony Party candidate? They always make me smile. I do wonder what would happen if one day they actually won a seat. :o)

Yes, I stayed up until about 2am, so I got to see a couple of Raving Loonies. I got on with knitting some 6x6 squares while I was watching (not quite finished yet).

When I was in the sixth form, there was a general election, so we had a mock election in school. I was the Monster Raving Loony Party candidate, and I was very pleased to come third.

My authority on such matters is snoring solidly so I can't check with him but I'm reasonably sure that there was a local election or maybe a byelection where a Monster Raving Loony candidate got elected and created a problem for the party because their constitution didn't actually allow it!

A number of years ago there was an Owl Party in Washington State - founded in Red Kelly's bar. Their motto was Out With Logic, On With Lunacy. It sounds like they might have gotten on well with the Monster Raving Loonies. Red, a jazz musician, actually polled 8% of the vote for governor in 1976 - which prompted the state legislature to tighten up the rules for minor parties to get access to the ballot.

It's not surprising. As an activist for another party, I think a third Labour term (with a substantially reduced majority) was the best we could hope for. Let's hope they use this time wisely!
