posts are slow

When I click onto the newsgroup via OE, it connects and downloads, then says something like, 39unread......42not downloaded, so normally I would go to Tools and clickon get next 300 messages and the ones outstanding would come in, but they never do now, I have to actually post something to get the rest of them...weird

well by replying to Katherine, and now this one, I'll get the rest outstanding....lol

I wonder if there is a problem with certain ISPs our connections along the way. Google always seems slow to respond to posts IME, but using my newgroup reader, I've been seeing posts right away, and haven't experienced any delays for some time now.

wish I knew, but by answering this I should now be able to download the 63 it says aren't downloaded...oh well, if I go to tools to get the next lot of new messages it doesn't do anything, might be the way this is set up, shall have to investigate, trouble is when you investigate you or at least I can at times mess something else up...LOL

As I mentioned in an earlier post elsewhere, there are at least 4 worms/virii floating around the 'net right now trying to damage any computer (except Macs of course). That's not to say this is the problem you're having, but it could possibly be. Make sure your virus protection is up to date and your firewall is on!

Yes, and to add to what Shelagh just said, even if you have all your protection in place, and the virii /worms aren't affecting your particular system, it's quite possible they could be affecting the channels en route to your system. There's a real biggy out there right now, came to light last week, and last I saw on CNN, Microsoft was working on a fix, but it wouldn't be available until this week.

I guess the criticism got to Microsoft as they have released the fix..... go get it!!

Google has been accepting all of mine, but nothing gets posted. I finally sent another note to the tech people about it. If this does get posted, anyone who wants to do the same go up under google help, then contact us and send them a note.

Great, Mirjam - thanks for letting me know that something finally made it through. I wish I understood what the problem is - I have posted about five times lately that I can't find.

Yes I am aware of this one, and thanks for the reminder of it...I always update my antivirus and spam filters, in fact I have three antivirus protectors on the go..

I run several groups for UK spinners etc as well as one name genealogy groups, and have set up a reminder alert that comes out once a week to everyone onboard to update their software etc so I always do mine then even if it has just been checked just to make sure. One of the ones I do is an online scan too, just once a month it takes little or no time to scan your system. No one antivirus system is enough anymore, others update their info quicker than others that is why I do the three. It never ceases to baffle me as to why people want to make these add on's to computors as a way of messing them all up, if they succeed then the people who do them in the first place would have no one to email anymore and would have a useless internet system all to themselves.. weird

Thanks - it seems like the messages took a more time to make it. The three on this thread are all marked Jan 8 but one was posted the 6th and another the 7th. Maybe when Nora contacted them they managed to pick up these old ones as well. (maybe a backed up server somewhere - I have no idea how this all works!)
